Because it promotes diversity? How many times have you even seen a homosexual character represented openly in television? Now, how many of those are kids shows?
I know that it's not been confirmed, nor do I ever think they will confirm Cilan's sexuality, because romance isn't relevant to the plot. There's no need to. But I would love it if a popular kid's show took a dive and actually "brought some of their characters out of the closet" so to speak. Just to remind people that these types of people exist in this world and they shouldn't be hated. I feel the same way about bringing in fat characters, minority characters and disabled characters. Just because they're a minority doesn't mean they don't deserve to be seen. That's why I love the BW cast...they're all so different and diverse.
And I know it's not good to stereotype all gay men as being faaaabulous or anything, because there are some that are definitely more masculine. But bringing light to those type of people should bring some acceptance, I guess...or I guess...with Cilan's case, there are some instances where it's bringing intolerance because he's "too fabulous" or "too gay." That really makes me sad, especially since I'm a huge ally for LGBTQ affairs
I like "fruity" characters because they act like a lot of my friends and me; I can relate with them XD They make me smile
