Speaking of the actual Ryu and Ken (and I apologize in advance for rambling again), they were initially nearly identical, before Divergent Character Evolution took hold and they started to change with each instalment; Ryu focused more on Hadoukens, while Ken focused more on Shoryukens.
I mean, Wes and Daz are counterparts of each other in-universe (or is that in-universes?). Lucas wouldn't have their long-range grabs, and his versions of Wes' moves wouldn't be quite as effective, but he'd have his strengths (he'd have access to the Beetle, for example). Jade would have the long-range grabs (utilizing her Grappling Hook), but different moves, while Whitney would be faster, but weaker (with different versions of Wes' attacks), and Alex would be the Fragile Speedster version of Wes (or a Ken to Blaze's Ryu; he'd also have access to a Kamehame Hadouken-type move). Dark Jake... is pretty self-explanatory (but he'd take more damage from attacks to compensate).
What I was thinking for the TEE fighting game I was dreaming up was that Wes and Daz could be the Ryu and Ken, with Lucas as the Dan, Jade/Whitney/Alex as the Sakura, and Dark Jake as the Akuma version of Jake.
Here is the article for that trope, then. tl;dr, two characters are given equal or similar abilities/appearances. This may also extend to Sakura (weaker but faster version), Akuma (Game Breaker version), and Dan Hibiki (Joke Character or Lethal Joke Character version) types.
