Looking at the earlier VMs, the transition from "blegh" to "huh, this guy seems good after all" is already jarring. And now we'll be all lovey dovey XD
well, you're talking about its mega, so you're obviously transferring it to Gen VI at some point. Why are you breeding in White anyway?
Close Combat is really powerful, it is absolutely worth the bulk drop. Besides, many Pokemon are able to OHKO it even without the drop. Blaze Kick and Dragon Pulse are mostly meh when Adaptability makes its STABs so powerful -- for example, Flash Cannon hits most Dragon-types for 160 BP while Dragon Pulse only hits them for 170 BP.
well I can just give you one if you want it's not like I exactly mind distributing sableye
I sorta doubt that Mega Mixcario is a thing, but I'm not sure. I think you'd be better off with either pure physical or pure special tbh, but if you really wanna try mixed Close Combat/(Espeed or Bullet Punch)/Flash Cannon/??? (really not sure about the last move) would likely be the best bet.
You still might as well keep Taunt, I've looked into other possibilities for the first set, but even if Prankster wasn't a thing I don't think any of them would be much better than Taunt, if they're better at all. Namely, I considered Knock Off, Snarl, and Metal Burst, and none of them seem worth it over Taunt.
If you're wondering why I insist on Foul Play for said set, it's because Mega Sableye lacks priority healing and burn, so physical attackers can be more problematic for it in certain ways.
So it can play as regular Sableye if it needs to, mostly, otherwise another move would probs be more useful. Not that preventing stat boosts as mega Sableye isn't useful too.
There's no reason to mega evolve right away if one doesn't need to. It might be smart if the opponent had somefin like a Ferrothorn waiting in the wings so you could bounce back spikes on the switch in, but other than that there's not really any cost to holding off.
I have not thought of any other sets, and only one viable variation. Snarl might be an option on the Calm Mind set, but I am hesitant about it myself due to the shit power -- the longer the opponent is left alive, the higher probability of them shattering the sp. defense boosts with a crit, and that's simply no good. If Sableye learned Trick Room Nasty Plot would be a good option, with somefin like Dark Pulse/Nasty Plot/Trick Room/Recover, but it does not, sadly. Hopefully it gets Trick Room, or another useful move or two, in ORAS.
Depends on the moveset you're using. For Mega Sableye, I'm thinking Recover/Will-o-wisp/Taunt/Foul Play or Recover/Will-o-wisp/Calm Mind/Dark Pulse will end up being the best sets.
The first set can play as regular Sableye (with forced max defense and foul play) until it needs to mega evolve. Regular Sableye doesn't even mind the lack of Leftovers recovery that much, I've been able to stall things even when burned and (regular) poisoned, which is obviously a bigger hindrance than not having passive recovery.
The second set is a sweeping set. Like with the first set you might not want to Mega Evolve right away, but it can't play as well in its base form due to the lack of Taunt.
Neither of my proposed sets use a physical attacking move (that uses Sableye's attack), so if you use either of them Bold would be the best nature. I have some spare Bold ones if you want.
