You can call me MachDragon. For me I like running more balanced teams, so I tend to value his role as a fast and powerful Pokemon more than anything.

I love his design too. Definitely one of the coolest looking Pokemon IMO. I've used him on every one of my 4th and 6th generation teams so far.

What do you think of his mega evolution? Do you find that the loss of speed is worth the added power and bulkiness? Or do you prefer not to mega evolve him?

Just be patient and give it some time. Nintendo/Game Freak and TCPI will most likely have all the issues solved soon.

I dunno what the holdup is, the eShop is up and running, maybe there are other problems with the servers they use for the service, only reason I can think of.

I wouldnt take any rumor as fact. Wait for official updates from Nintendo.
