They've been relevant for what 8 episodes? Either the writers don't know what to do with Team Rocket or they're just trying to slowly phase them out and hope that nobody will notice them come Gen IX.
Prime example: When Grookey angered the Falinks by hitting them, the Falinks attacked Ash and Goh. Pikachu defended them and Goh entirely blames Ash for everyone being separated when it wouldn't have happened if Grookey wasn't hitting Falinks to begin with.
I swear Grookey better not evolve in that episode. Grookey absolutely doesn't deserve it right now and Goh has done, like with all the other starters, very little to earn it. Knowing this mess of a series though they will give Grookey the most undeserving evolution in Pokemon anime history.
That's one reason why I honestly hope Gen 9 is this year or early 2023. Sadly it seems more likely we won't get Gen 9 until late 2023, which means Journeys of all series would be the one to get stretched out to 4 years. I just want to move onto the next series already.
It was literally just spam Ember and bounce around. I question how a Pokemon like Raboot that had veeeeeery little battle experience could take down Milotic.
I'm sure he does, but the writers have to have a shoulder warmer for Goh, hence why Grookey is out all the time. I mean, Goh's always gotta have at least one shoulder warmer and that's essentially one of Grookey's only purposes. The other being starting conflict for the episode. A Pokemon like...
He never has, though if I recall, he has in a recent episode at least TRIED to stop Grookey from causing any trouble. He has still yet to really admit Grookey was at fault though for any problems though.
In regards to that post, Clemon't Chespin far surpasses that Grookey and I didn't even think Chespin was that bad. Yeah they forced him to be the cutesy gag Pokemon that people could find annoying, but he was adorable. He actually did stuff. Clemont did use him in battles and we did see Chespin...
When you put it this way, I think this is another one of the negative side effects of giving Grookey to Goh instead of Ash. If they had to give him to Ash, they would have had to focus on Grookey more as a character rather than a plot device. It would have been a poorly written arc for sure...
Grookey(and Goh) have done absolutely nothing to even deserve an evolution. Grookey's out of control behavior has never been addressed and Goh has done nothing about it. Grookey has yet to even use a single move. An evolution will feel very forced and unearned. And I thought Sobble's were bad...
Chespin wasn't even that bad. I loved Clemont's Chespin. He still had the gluttony Oshawott did, but he didn't constantly cause problems for everyone...like Grookey. He also did have some nice battle moments. Also, I think Chespin at least had a nice dynamic with Pancham going, which I found...
