They just kept it out of flashbacks, they didn't retcon anything. We also have AshGreninja toys and plush dolls slated to release in Japan this fall so they're still marketing it. You can't pretend a whole form that Ash trained to fuse into never happen they seem to be holding it back the same...
Because those comics are just meant to be epilogues to the episode. Same with the one that showed Serena/Lisia starting an idol group together. They're not meant to be seem in the ep itself. I don't see what the point of bringing that up is since it doesn't have to be shown in the episode.
They literally had Ash reference it's form on the plane to Go. Saying it's been retconed is false and people should wait till subs to see.
Besides that the episode made it perfectly clear Ash and Greninja still share whatever the bond or Aura form was from XY similar to Lucario now.
They can simply having Greninja used if Ash wants to again, and say the vine stuff is over. It's not a big mystery since Ash knows where it is as shown in this episode. There's literally Greninja toy merch showing up for the next few months, it's pretty obvious what's being telegraphed.
What didn't you like about it? It's probably the best showcasing of one of Ash's old pokemon in awhile, and as you mentioned we saw how it was outclassed, then Greninja felt sorry and wanted to help it control its Aura in the lake. The final shots of the two working together with their attacks...
Having Greninja battle without in the whole episode does feel like it's being saved for later.
He powered up his attack, learned to control its senses/Aura in the lake and against the vines (in the beginning of the ep it's attacks bounded off them) etc.
Little confused what you expected...
I thought this episode was heartwarming and nostalgic the whole way through with the flashbacks too. The training scenes were well done showing how Greninja was much stronger and how Lucario had to control its Aura powers. Seeing the two team up on the vines again was great.
They didn't retcon any AshGreninja form, not showing it in one flashback isn't a big deal. This episode also allowed Greninja to show how strong it was in its base form without powering up.
Like I thought all the training scenes were fantastic. We see Greninja knocking Lucario around easily...
If Alan is truly in the Masters 8 I am sure Greninja will return again. Ash knows where it is and they didn't show off the AshGreninja form in the ep. The flashback also specifically showed Ash and Alan's pokemon
Nobody expected Greninja to rejoin Ash in this episode but it feels like setup for...
