Rewatched the ep with the subs, weirdly I like the battle a bit more now. The whole Mega Charizard fight really needed more time and to go into next episode, but I like the grass starter battle a lot. Don't mind Malamar being defeated quickly either. It's also more noticeable now which moves did...
As I said in the other thread, if you look at how Ash's other past rivals like Gary, Paul and Gladion were treated, the writers generally treated them well showcasing them all as still strong and giving them some development or new pokemon and battles.
With Alain they basically brought him back...
Weirdly the Chesnaught vs. Rillaboom fight was actually pretty decent for what it was. It was the only real good battle in the episode, but people will overlook it due to the obvious ending.
Every other match is getting a full episode. The reason this was poorly done is they put the opening ceremonies and a match in the same episode. I loved the opening ceremonies and would have loved a full episode of just the champions chatting in the waiting room and being announced.
I don't...
It is baffling they didn't give Leon/Alan a full episode. Like even if the outcome was the same they'd have a full episode to make the fights last a little longer. Every other match in the first round seems to be getting a full ep.
Yeah that was definitely weird how little fanfare Alan got in general. Even look at what they did with Gary, Paul and Gladion and gave them proper focus but Alan was an afterthought for half an episode.
Alan really should of appeared outside the tournament like Paul did in a random episode.
Alan losing wasn't the problem (obviously we all knew he would) it's that he should of gotten a full episode for his battle like every other champion is getting
Iris is the youngest champion and she was excited over Cynthia in BW the same way. Her being impressed by two female champions fits her character well. The whole point of that scene in the halls was showing how excited Ash/Iris were but how serious everyone else was.
Iris taking a picture with two female champions and being in awe over them was the best part of her characterisation. How has Iris had it the worst? This is the best she's ever been, being excited to battle champions and her and Ash getting along great.
We still have one final part for that, considering how good Gary was used whatever the final eps for it should be good.
Every battle after this one gets a full episodes, so I don't see how they're rushing
Iris' scenes were the best part of this episode. I can't believe how cute the scene of Iris taking a selfie with Cynthia and Diantha was. I also liked how Ash and Iris interacted too. Ash's nod to Alan and fanboying his Charizard was nice too.
Iris is amazing in Journey's.
