Here's a controversial opinion: even though they gave Ash pokemon that had very obvious promotional purposes, none of them were really popular /looks at poipole and meltan. Even Orange Lycanroc has only middling popularity.
We are talking about XY(Z) so I don't think its right to bring up instances from SM and Journeys to determine if Alain winning the league was the right narrative decision in XY(Z). I don't have evidence on this but decisions made for SM and Journeys probably weren't even thought of when XY(Z)...
Lol this just sounds like you have nothing to say to my observation of how the narrative was affected by the Team Flare arc.
Kalos was probably the most self contained series. Aside from the link from BW to XY, there was next to no past references. I don't really see how your point of how they...
While I think there's an element of that, I think Ash losing the league was the overall better outcome in terms of it leading on to the Team Flare arc.
If Ash won the league, it would have been the conclusion of his arc. He could still go on to cement his status as champion through his deeds in...
In that sense, I guess the lack of time was probably a big reason why they let him win the Kalos league anyways. I also agree with @Alola on how it wouldn't really be different if Ash had won. I guess they just weighed the possibility and thought there was more story with Alain winning...
Hm I don't really agree with this. I think him winning the league is key to the learning point "on how winning a battle isn’t the only way to go or everything in life". If he had loss the league, he would have learnt his lesson then, making what happened after the league somewhat unnecessary.
Interesting how y'all contradict each other. Hmm. I get that his goal is to take part in the world championship thing but it seems like he is barely doing anything about it. Every episode feels like scattered interesting happenings in the pokemon world without any connection to each other.
I see where y'all are coming from but honestly, his lines were so cringe it didn't sell the story they were trying to tell tbh. Like he's great as an idea but the execution was blargh.
