I have an explanation for why Ash doesn't have very many Pokemon. Ash is a nuzlocke player. Minus the releasing the Pokemon when they faint. But people give him free badges for saving their gym or doing some other valiant act or something. So Ash is Nuzlocking on Very Easy mode.
