Well that's what the episode was advertised as, not as a Mewtwo vs Giovanni special. Since the episode was dealing Mewtwo challenging Ash and Go's convictions TR had no place in it.

That doesn't sound like enough justification to me. Especially since Giovanni no longer remembers it. If this is truly Mewtwo's only appearance it's for the best that TR weren't involved. It would have taken away time from Ash and Go vs. Mewtwo

Why exactly did people want TR or Giovanni to be involved in this again?
