I'm sort of divided. I like Gengar and think Ash having to reform a genuinely malicious Pokémon could be unique and interesting, as sort of a flip of him helping Chimchar get over it's trauma (Primeape was turned really quickly and wasn't really that interesting as a result). On the other hand...

That idea occured to me, too. Not sure how likely it is, but Mimikyu set a precedent for gifting TR with strong Pokémon to increase their threat level.

What I'm wondering is if the curse means Ash is going to be incapacitated this episode and someone else will have to deal with Gengar (Gou, Koharu, maybe his Pokémon will do it themselves) or if it'll be about him overcoming the curse to save the day.

It looks like Gengar may be a general menace rather than specifically connected to Koharu.
