Honestly, I've always thought that Misty's tomboyishness was way overstated, but that's beside the point.
Personally I always wait until we see the character in action before judging, the personality is far more important than the design for me.
My suspicion is that they are going to have a female lead with a similar personality to Ash. The, go get them, shonen type hero. If they are going that way I wonder how they will distinguish the two so things don't get too repetitive.

To be fair those are both hard to notice. You have to look at the zoomed-in picture of her face to notice her eyelashes and the hairclip could easily have been just been red-colored highlights in her hair.
