No. Just, no. That's not even remotely likely. That, on the other hand, is a scenario I could see happening.

It was established in the games that Kukui has traveled at least to Kanto, so I wouldn't be surprised if his anime counterpart acquired these starter Pokémon by traveling to other regions. And if that's the case, I wouldn't see any reason to exclude Galar from the list of regions he's visited.

They technically have battled. While Kukui was wearing his disguise. Also, battling isn't the only form of buildup, you know.

Ash and Kukui's relationship has had buildup too, especially now that his secret identity has been exposed. Not as much as the rivalry with Paul, but still. Also, remember that in the second SM episode, Kukui was supposed to battle Ash, but he never got to, because Ash ended up battling Tapu...

Most of the greatness of that battle came from the massive buildup, though.

I actually wonder if that means that the battle will extend to a third episode, or is Kukui just going to win with five 'mon. Typhlosion is way too underutilized in the anime. But he already has a Fire starter in Incineroar.
