Oooh Red Gyarados! I'm trying not to get too twisted up in specific details/semantics at this point because this series has just been kind of weird so far in terms of all of that and I usually just end up annoyed or disapointed. But seeing the Red Gyarados does make me pretty happy!

Yeah, they don't care about the passing of time. In addition to them mentioning days and months passing on occasions (i.e. when the Indigo League was "in two months"), in the Pikachu & Pichu short, Ash explicitly says it's been a whole year since he and Pikachu met. But canonically, he's still 10.

Lance? Leon? Pokemon World Championship? I'm hopeful this episode might start to establish some plot points, particularly an actual goal for Ash. At face value, however, I'm just really excited we're getting an old character, a new character, and some version of the Pokemon World Tournament...
