The first thing he did onscreen was examine Lillie's Vulpix to see if it was sick. Easily one of the best scenes of the episode. They probably get days off work. It makes sense that Squirtle would want to visit his friends at Oak's.

I do wish we'd seen more of Ash's Pokemon but the Squirtle Squad almost makes up for it IMO. Was not expecting to see them. I just wish we'd seen them together with Ash.
