You can turn it off by talking to an NPC near the receptionist. I think it is a male NPC and he asks you about the 3DS camera. I forgot the exact dialogue, but it’s there. Then you can see the contest hall background instead of the real life camera, which I also very much dislike.

I feel like they might postpone the remakes and wait for when we move to a new system, but who knows. I'm looking for them either way!
