Do we even know for sure that it allowed itself to be caught and not that the combination of its exhaustion and Go coming out of nowhere with a pokeball while it was restrained weren’t the cause? Go may have seen it as him helping but that doesn’t mean Suicune would have just seen it as another...

Multiple times that he doesn’t doesn’t really hold up so much when the vast majority of the time that’s exactly what he does do. And while he has started battling them sometimes, those are very few instances that aren’t just a single ball and caught. Hell even as recently as the Flygon episode...

The series has already established that certain balls work better for certain situations even as far back as Johto. Differences in pokeballs are more than just aesthetic even in the anime.

And? The entire episode was focused on Pikachu and its feelings of jealousy. Ash’s “lesson” was of such little importance that they had him learn it offscreen with them mentioning about Koharu getting on him about it. Simply because a Pokémon is owned by someone doesn’t mean the episode is about...

Review JN053: Catch the Legend!? Find the Guardian of Water - Suicune!!

30 wasn’t even an Ash episode, it was a Pikachu episode. And 56 hasn’t even aired yet so how do you know what amount Go will be involved in it? And even then, that kinda highlights a bit of an issue that only, at max, 9 episodes out of 56 have focused purely on Ash without him having to share...

Review JN053: Catch the Legend!? Find the Guardian of Water - Suicune!!

I’d say that a problem that I have with the way they present Go’s catching style, his first thought is ‘catch the Pokémon’ in really any given situation as if it’s a one size fits all approach as opposed to thinking about if he should. And it certainly doesn’t help that the majority of the...

Review JN053: Catch the Legend!? Find the Guardian of Water - Suicune!!

While I’m not saying that he’s anywhere near as bad as the hunters, there is something to be said about the way that the writers have executed Go’s style of catching Pokémon within the series. Does he care for them? Yes. But he is one who just goes around catching Pokémon left, right and center...

Relevant to you mentioning the comparison between Go and the hunters but it seems even go (and by association the writers) are aware of the similarities View: https://twitter.com/Arkeus88/status/1355495605540413440?s=20 It’s just a shame that they bring up such self-awareness within the...

Review JN053: Catch the Legend!? Find the Guardian of Water - Suicune!!

One thing that I’d like to know though is that, given that the writers have now shown that they’re willing to allow a legendary to be caught, how are they gonna manage to not make it feel cheap? Because you might be able to get away with something like this once or twice but if you keep doing...

It’s not even the first time that that’s happened given Naganadel was shown to still belong to Ash when it returned for the battle against Kukui. Even with it having gone home again, Ash never released it, just let it leave.

Review JN053: Catch the Legend!? Find the Guardian of Water - Suicune!!

In Gladion’s case, I don’t think that’s a fair comparison considering that Silvally is literally a man-made Pokémon that was created by the company that his family owns and that he stole it away when he ran away from home. As for Tobias, I’m pretty sure the consensus on him is that he’s not so...

Review JN053: Catch the Legend!? Find the Guardian of Water - Suicune!!

You know, it’s gonna be interesting to keep this episode in mind in a couple of weeks when Ash battles Wikstrom. Given that he’s Elite 4 and thus a high challenge, the outcome of that could be a good way to gauge whether the writers are spreading the bounty around between Ash and Go or just...

Review JN053: Catch the Legend!? Find the Guardian of Water - Suicune!!

I’d say less a matter of it being unnatural than it being some messed up priorities. Here they have a Pokémon that is being assaulted by poachers and Go’s first instinct is throw a pokeball first, as opposed to getting it free. And while people have argued that that is getting it free, it’s also...

And meanwhile it also has moves like Blaze Kick which could be used to cut the rope. Or Pikachu could have used the aforementioned Iron Tail to cut it instead of Ash sitting there gawking like a background extra. Alternatively, they could have attacked the poachers. Even getting one to lose...

Given that he’s a protagonist of the Pokémon anime, him acting that way is par for the course. Ash is also a child of the same age and has been doing things like that for ages, even in his most immature. So yea, that’s exactly how he’s expected to act.

Review JN053: Catch the Legend!? Find the Guardian of Water - Suicune!!

That’s honestly a seriously low bar considering that that’s how he’s expected to act. We’re not exactly gonna be seeing a main character who is shown to be despicable. Now if it were the line of TRio or something who made a call like that, it’d be something but as they say, you don’t get praise...

Which isn’t a unique type of scenario given the Ash and co’s previous encounters with legendaries. Hell, Ash saved Mewtwo and Celebi’s life once. So what about this specific scenario that makes Go so special as to be allowed to capture and keep a legendary?
