Surprised it just occurred to me but, while it wasn’t in person, this is the first time in the series that Koharu has watched one of Ash’s battles. Took the writers long enough to make it happen.

Yea but of the ones we’ve seen eating the tournament in cameos, they make the least sense. Now if Wallace was there, you could at least argue that he’s also a Top Coordinator but with Steven, it’s just random.

It’s super weird that they had May’s rivals as cameos watching this. Sure, Steven is their region’s champion but they’re all Coordinators and never had any kind of relationship with Steven or Pokémon battling.

Iris is a former main character and both had been part of the Master’s 8. I fail to see the issue with them sticking around for a tournament that only has 2 more rounds to it to watch and cheer Ash on especially when they earned their way there. Hell, every League since BW has had Ash’s rivals...

So with that, it’s official that Alain’s time here was a total waste of a return. He came back, got curbstomped, watched the remainder of round 1 and then just leaves without actually adding anything with his presence. What a waste.
