    Mimey still has those traits in this series. They didn't rewrite its character, they just added more to it since he's now a semi-main cast member instead of a minor character.

    Last year's history special did the same thing, Mr. Mime was shown with a bunch of Ash's Pokemon. So at the very least, they already had the idea to consider Mr. Mime one of Ash's Pokemon back when Sun & Moon was stil airing.

    Yes, it refers to him as "Satoshi's Barrierd" (Ash's Mr. Mime) and he was shown to own its Poke Ball in the most recent episode. So yes, Mimey has been retconned into belonging to Ash.
