[DISCLAIMER: I do not include legendaries in my analysis, as I do not use them.]

Diamond and Pearl are looking to be the greatest games in the series so far. The graphics are phenominal, the new moves appear to be wonderful, and backwards compatibility looks to be amazing.

In fact, the only thing I don't like about this generation compared to the past, are its Pokemon.

Why on Earth does the final Dex have just FIVE fire types in the whole game? Only FOUR ice types, in a place with a SNOW-COVERED region?

I don't understand their logic. Why did they cap it at 151 again, instead of going to 200 like they did in Ruby and Sapphire? They could have stuck 50 more Pokemon in it, including a decent number of Fire and Ice Pokemon, and it would have been just fine. Even if they were old ones, at least they'd be there.

Statistically speaking, one third of people will have the fire starter. What are the other two thirds to do? I see one other Fire-type: Ponyta. Essentially, if you don't pick the fire starter, and plan to get a Fire-type so you don't have to use a TM on something else, you will get Ponyta, end of story.

I'm just as unhappy about the lack of Ice-types, but at least there are enough water types (1/5 of the dex!?) that can handle Ice-type moves.

I really don't understand why they were so stingy on Fire and Ice this time around. I'm glad they gave the electrics some much-needed expansion, but this is depressing. In essence, they gave us one new Fire-type, the starter, and one new Ice-type, that Ice/Grass thing (which does look rather interesting). Weavile doesn't count since it's an evolution of Sneasel.

I remember when Ruby and Sapphire came out. I was very impressed at how well they brought Dragon and Ghost and Steel up to being more regular types. I felt that Fire and Electric got neglected, as did Ice (though I was so tickled about pure-Ice Snorunt that I didn't think as much about it), but it was the price to pay for this balancing move.

Now we get to Diamond and Pearl and we see tons of new Ghosts and Bugs, a LOT of oldies, and a bit of help to electricity. Fire and Ice got left in the cold, once again. (Pun intended)

Don't get me wrong, I understand what they did this time. They turned a lot of Pokemon that were single-staged in Gold and Silver, or were the only ones of their type in the game (Mr. Mime, Sudowoodo) and turned them into primary Pokemon that would be more typical to the game. But if they wanted to do that, couldn't they have done it ALONG WITH making a whole bunch of new Pokemon? They can't possibly be so short on ideas that they could not introduce one single new Fire type that is not a starter, or more than one single Ice type that is not an evolution to a previous Pokemon.

I hope DS game chips are writable. Really. Because I'm really hoping that in the next installment of the Pokemon series, be it SolidGold/SterlingSilver, or Gem, or whatever the name is, I hope they introduce more, and allow them to be sent to Diamond and Pearl. Or, even better, allow them to be downloaded via Wi-Fi. ESPECIALLY if they are Fire and/or Ice.

I'm not trashing the game, as many of the new Pokemon we got do look very fascinating and original. But come on. They might have taken a lot of time on this game. Heck, this game may have caused delay in its release. But for all the time they had, was it so restricted that they couldn't have put any more Fire-types in?

We got 5 Ice-types Iceceon, Evergreen, Yukionna, Superpilowswine, and Weavile. You're complaining about 5 Ice-types? This is the most we've gotten in a long time that aren't part water. I'm thrilled. They're all great.

And yeah, Fire's been getting the shaft since Gen II and I can't figure out why. They're not very popular in competitive battling because their Special attacks are limited, but that's not the fault of the Fire-types so much as the programmers. They're vitally neccessary to take down Skarmory and other Steel-types.

We got a lot of great Pokemon, but you're right that this generation's 151 feel way more "unbalanced" when seen alone than past gens in type distribution.

The point about the ice types I think is that to get most of them you need to wait to have completed the shinodex, so very few are usable in teh first part of the game.

I'm not complaining about them so much as the lack of MORE.

Not that we can access Iceon, Piloevo, or Snoruntevo yet.

From my point of view, I'm just grateful that it is Rapidash, who I've loved since RBY but never been able to use effectively until now.

no, they definately needed at least more fire types. Its not like they should be out of ideas. Its also not like they couldn't have included old fire types either. I really hope they did add some save space in there for extra stats and image data to stick in more monsters perminately online. The actual over all number of new monsters is disappointing also (like the idea that there aren't many new chains)

Fire-types are easy to make. You just take a random animal and set it on fire. Really, that's all there is to it.

All Ice Pokemon in the Shinou Dex include:

Iceeon
Yukikaburi
Yukinooh
Swinub
Piloswine
Piloswine Evo
Sneasel
Weavile
Snorunt
Glalie
Ice/Ghost

That's 11 Ice types you can capture in-game, be happy :)

Piloswine Evo
Snorunt
Glalie
Ice/Ghost

That's 6 of your 11 that are not in the 151 included in the non-National Dex, and therefore are seemingly not catchable in-game.

What surprised me MORE is the fact that they added even MORE new Water and Normal types in this generation. As if we don't have enough of that yet. *shrugs*

Heck, I'd probably be more than grateful if they had created a Fire equivalent of Geodude/Tentacool/Zubat at this rate, LAWL.

yeah, I guess they might has well had evolved rapidash. People have been picturing it as a future pegasus evo since gen 1.

But yeah, we need new fire types. I'd want my fire/ghost jack-o-lanturn/fire eater pkmn I created after gen 2.

Geodude/Tentacool/Zubat at this rate, LAWL.

It would be really nice to run into some Poison/Fire Pokemon again and again and again. : p

I was hoping for a Tentacruel evo.

I mean, Zubat got a third stage, and Tentacruel is his BFF!

*remembers Ookurage rumour*

I'm posting this on Bulbanews. Trip, if you would not like it to be there, let me know, and I'll remove it.

Luckily, Fire-types are completely unnecessary for my team, so I'm not worried about the lack of them.

Golbat is probably one of the reason why we will never have a new gen without it (at least not until you get the National Dex). ;_;

I wish I did not have to see Tentacool to complete Shinou dex...

^^ It would be ironic if it was rare in this game and you had to seek it out to do something critical (like unlock online mode, lol)
