The next expansion in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Sword & Shield—Evolving Skies, has been officially announced by The Pokémon Company International. The expansion will be released worldwide from August 27, 2021.

Evolving Skies sees the return of Dragon-type Pokémon to the TCG, in their first appearance since the Cosmic Eclipse expansion in 2019, with both Rayquaza and Duraludon confirmed to be appearing as Pokémon VMAX. The focus of the expansion however seem to be the Eeveelutions, with every Eeveelution having its own Pokémon V and Pokémon VMAX cards. Several Eeveelutions are also confirmed to receive Battle Styles, including Single Strike Flareon VMAX and Umbreon VMAX, and Rapid Strike Vaporeon VMAX and Sylveon VMAX.

As usual, Evolving Skies will be available across a variety of formats, including the typical booster packs and Special Collections, as well as two versions of Elite Trainer Box featuring different sets of Eeveelutions. Special versions of these Elite Trainer Boxes will also be available through Pokémon Center. A pre-release Sword & Shield—Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box will also be made available at participating Pokémon TCG retailers from August 14, containing four Evolving Skies booster packs, a 23-card Evolution pack including one of four alternative art promo cards, and a deckbuilding tip sheet.

The set list of the Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield—Evolving Skies expansion includes significantly higher numbers of special Pokémon than the previous Chilling Reign expansion at a cost of less Full Art Supporter cards. All together, these number:
  • 15 Pokémon VMAX
  • 18 Pokémon V and 33 full-art Pokémon V
  • 24 Trainer cards and 5 full-art Supporter cards
  • A new Special Energy card
