Is it just me or has Paul never made physical contact with his Pokemon onscreen until DP64, and only when Gliscor blasts Electabuzz and Weavile right into Paul?

Yeeeesss! I knew it! Paul's afraid of pokemon! I've been speculating that from the very beginning!
*Waves arms wildly in a jumping-to-the-wrong-conclusion-mannor*

Was Paul trying to flee from them? More like protecting himself from the winds when Electabuzz and Weavile were heading towards him. That touch may have been non incidental.

Well I know that. But I'm saying, Paul is so emotionally detached from his Pokemon that they have to be hurled at him to even touch him. What do you think?

Maybe one injured him in his youth? And with Paul being Paul, rather than shying away from them like Tory did in Movie 7, he just decides to treat his Pokemon like crap as some subtle form of indirect revenge? He always did seem to be the type that replies with anger to everything. Might even be a family-related situation! He lives in Veilstone, after all... between Team Galactic and the casinos, hypothetical drugs, sex, and rock n' roll...

Which is all pretty out-there, admittedly, but it is an interesting point to make; Paul never really making direct physical contact with his Pokemon. D/P's so unpredictable, it's untelling if there's a subtle plot point that they're planning to make in there, or if they just never notice it...

Well Paul's brother is in the Veilstone arc so we'll probably get some backstory on his past soon

If we got backstory on Drew and (sort of) Harley, we'll definitely be getting some for Paul.

He wouldn't have a choice if he didn't touch them. It was more of physical support to keep him upright than get blown away.
