Niantic has announced that the Rock Pokémon, Alolan Geodude will be the featured Pokémon for May 2022's Pokémon GO Community Day. During this event, Alolan Geodude will be appearing more frequently in the wild, with its Shiny variant also being available. The event will be held on May 21st, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. Note that this event will only involve Alolan Geodude and its evolution, and will not involve Kantonian Geodude.

Alolan Graveler that are evolved into Alolan Golem during the event, or within two hours after it concludes, will learn the Fast Attack Rollout. This move, which is making its Pokémon GO debut with this event, has 4 power in Trainer Battles and 14 power in Gyms and in raids.

The following event bonuses will also be active throughout the event:
  • Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • Candy for catching Pokémon
  • 2× chance to receive Geodude XL Candy from catching Alolan Geodude
  • Incense and Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise.
  • One additional special trade can be made during the event and up to two hours afterward for a maximum of two for the day.
  • Trades made during the event and up to two hours afterward will require 50% less Stardust.
Players can also work together with other Trainers during this event to unlock the Group Play Bonus. If enough Pokémon are caught with help from a single Lure Module, the 3× Catch Stardust bonus for Trainers near the Lured PokéStop will become a 4× bonus for 30 minutes. This bonus will not stack with the 3× Catch Stardust bonus and will instead replace it for the duration.

Additionally, players can get event-themed stickers by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop. A bundle containing 30 Ultra Balls will be available in the shop at no cost. A special one-time-purchase Community Day Box will also be made available for 975 PokéCoins, which comes with one Super Incubator, one Lucky Egg, one Elite Fast TM, and one Star Piece.

Finally, a Community Day-exclusive Special Research story, A Rocky Road, will be available for purchase at US$1.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in each local currency). A new feature is also being introduced which allows this Special Research to be given to a friend. To gift, tap the Special Research ticket, then tap the Gift button instead of the Buy button. The recipient cannot receive this Special Research through the gifting feature if they had already purchased it or had been gifted one already. More details will be announced soon on how players can use this new feature.
