I managed to catch some of the beginning of the inauguration this morning.

Regardless of political party, my respects go out to both for the work they've done for our country, and the guidance for the current leader.

Trump didn't want me to have rights as a gay, and I was one of the three people who genuinely liked Kamala Harris.

Also, it was wonderful waking up this morning without fearing my president would start a nuclear war because someone insulted his spray tan. I could get used to this.

I voted for Biden because something needed to be done about Trump, and Biden was just the most immediate option. So, sheer pragmatism. I'm a hard lefty registered as independent and I hate Biden too, just not as much as outright fascism.

Not a US resident, but I spent £££ on travelling to campaign for Biden on account of anti-Trumpness (before the trip was cancelled).

Also, I was fairly confident Biden was going to win the whole shebang when he announced his run, and backing a winner always feels good.

I presume you voted for Trump.

Did your view on him change after he attempted to incite a mob to raid the US Capitol and overthrow the government?

I believe that most people here voted for Biden because they hated how the last four years the White House was occupied by an incredibly corrupt man(baby) who brought suffering to many thousands of Americans. His stupidity was only matched by his callousness. Just have a look at Biden's first batch of executive orders if you want to know why people wanted Trump gone.

I have a wide range of criteria for who I vote for (including off the top of my head: LGBT rights, women's rights, being anti-racism, being moral or at least some resemblance of such, separation of religion and government, freedom of religion, climate change, being pro-science, public education, health care, health and safety, making higher education free/accessible, keeping systems in place to help those who are unfortunate, etc.). And you know what? Trump failed on every single count. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

Biden was far from my first choice, but Trump was like, pardon my bluntness, but pure evil. There was only one choice in the 2020 election. And that's a large problem with USA politics right now.

So anyway it's nice to have a press secretary who actually answers questions again.

I do want to point out that the U.S. “left” is actually still rather centrist (and even “right”) in other parts of the world. As a whole, our political philosophies are unfortunately skewed more conservatively than we realize. This makes it easy for people to demonize the likes of Bernie Sanders and AOC as “socialists” or “communists” which is thoroughly misguided.

I personally can’t wait for the time where things like the Green New Deal and other policies introduced by the greater left are looked at more openly and realistically (they are realistic). But, for now, I voted for Biden because he is a step in the right direction. True, that’s not saying much given what we had before, but it’s the most realistically possible step forward nonetheless and he has (nearly) my full support in the meantime.

Here we we have Marjorie Greene...She is one of Georgia's representatives AND she is a QAnon supporter who says stuff like 9/11 was an inside job and the Sandy Hook school shooting was staged...This foolish bitch somehow got elected, and now she's trying to impeach Biden right off the bat...She's going to join the ranks of the absolute worst people in congress, like Matt Gaetz, Devin Nunes, Jim Jordan, and Lauren Boebert (Her fellow QAnon supporter).

This is only true for economic policy. The Democrats are actually well to the left of most major European parties, especially when it comes to civil rights and immigration.

It certainly isn’t only true for economic policy, that’s just where it’s most evident. It’s actually pretty scattered, but the point still stands: the US’s definition of leftist politics and “socialism” is not the same as that of many other developed countries.
