SwSh Any Easter Eggs or Cool References You Noticed?

In Gen 5, which was based in USA, they had the legendary trio based on the 3 (and 4th) Musketeers which is French-based.

Then, Sugimori stated that Serperior's design was meant to be based on French royalty.

Guess the Cobalion family were better off as Kalos pokemon, but anyways, some people interpreted that as a hint that France will be based off the next region.

Well although they were right, but I think those hints ended there.

Whoa - that's so true! I like the Three Musketeers one, that's news to me! Does that mean that Keldeo might be a nod to the 4th musketeer being Milady? Hm...

Time to keep a close eye on Galar and see the hints for next generation's inspiration!

As someone that didn't read The Three Musketeers and only knows them through pop culture, wasn't the fourth musketeer D'artagnan (I forgot how to spell his name). Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

As far as hints, I think we're better off deducing, that there already been 2 U.S. regions and 2 Europe regions, so the next region is most likely a Latin America / Australia / Africa area. I'm hoping for 1 that includes pyramids, so South America or Egypt.

I was banking on the 8th generation being at least in the Southern Hemisphere, but I guess GF moved their magnifying glass a bit north and bam, UK

Looking at the trailer slowed down, it looks like the back of Hop's uniform has either the number 89 or a 3-digit number that ends in 89. I wonder if that's supposed to reference anything specific or significant.

This is probably another instance of goroawase (Japanese worldplay)! When you say 89 and three digits, the first thing that comes to my head is 889!

889 -> はやく
but this can also be read as
早く (Hurry!)

Cool, I wonder if that's going to relate to his character in some way.

Seeing as people are saying Hop is like Hau, and Hau is pretty hyperactive, maybe? I did just think of 889 cuz it's the only X89 goroawase I know, lol

The first thing it reminded me of was Barry...

It's the only goroawase X89 I know :( It's probably not that, but I tried. My Japanese is very bad, I apologize.

I'm not convinced that was really meant to be hinting at anything, because all of Unova's Starters and Legendary trios correspond aesthetically to another country. Serperior and the Musketeers are French, certainly, but also Emboar and the Tao dragons are Chinese-influenced, while Samurott and the Kami trio have Japanese origins.

^ Yea, and Chandelure family based on Japanese culture too.

Seems like the gens after seem to go more with the country they're based, with Gen 8 the most.

Btw, I can see why GF dipped on a lot of Fairy types in Gen 7. Gen 6 is the 1st Europe region and the 1st Fairy types. Gen 7 had a lot of Fairy as 2ndary typing, but only 1 in primary typing, Comfey. As Gen 7 is USA again, I can see why, but since we're back to a European region, expecting more Fairy types as the primary element!
