The Five-Man Band is a group of characters who all fit certain roles within the group:
The Hero/Leader
The Foil
The Heart
The Brains/Smart Guy
The Brawn/Big Guy

If one were to apply this to building a team of Pokémon, how would this work?

The Leader- Jolteon (it's the fastest Eeveelution and a great special-attacking sweeper)
The Foil- Vaporeon (its bulky tank fighting style contrasts Jolteon's speedy sweeper style)
The Heart- Sylveon (the Eeveelution most frequently used as a medic)
The Brains- Umbreon (due to none of its offenses being high, Umbreon relies almost entirely on passively disruptive moves in combat, which naturally requires more strategy to pull off well than just clicking on a powerful and/or super-effective move and KOing the opponent)
The Brawn- Flareon (has the highest physical attack of the Eeveelutions, in addition to being the only one to have both of its offensive stats be strong)

I'll try for a few of Ash's teams

Sinnoh
  • Leader = Infernape
  • Foil = Buizel?
  • Heart = Gliscor/Gible
  • Brains = Staraptor?
  • Brawn = Torterra

Kalos
  • Leader = Greninja
  • Foil = Talonflame
  • Heart = Noivern
  • Brains = Goodra?
  • Brawn = Hawlucha?

Alola
  • Leader = Lycanroc
  • Foil = Incineroar
  • Heart = Rowlet
  • Brains = Naganadel?
  • Brawn = Melmetal

It's iffy ngl. Now the regional ace would be the leader and the weakest/'baby' of the team would be heart. Brawn would just be slow and tanky, but idk whether Goodra or Hawlucha belongs in it (cause Hawlucha's a fighting type, but Goodra suits it more). Foils are tricky too. But idk what to say for brains, I just went with mons that were fully evolved/have experience.

The Hero/Leader: The starter, or whoever feels like the ace and the main hitter.
The Foil: Another heavy hitter, could have an advantage over the starter. Possible types: electric, poison, dark, fighting, dragon, flying (as in most runs you'll bump upon a flying type as your first capture).
The Heart: A Pokemon with a peaceful design and maybe a couple supporting moves. Possible types: Psychic, Fairy, Ice, Water.
The Brains/Smart Guy: A small and fast attacker with boosting moves. Possible types: bug, electric, steel.
The Brawn/Big Guy: A wall, a very sturdy Pokemon that focuses on defenses and usually looks menacing. Possible types: Rock, ground, steel.

I like these ideas. Here is an idea for the foil: It must have the opposite nature of the Leader (If the Leader has a Bold Nature, the Foil must have a Lonely Nature).
