Art de Arylett

Good evening! Your art art is very nice! You have clean lines and the colours are appealing.
If you don't mind a bit of advice, I noticed some of your drawings have somewhat of a lean. You can remedy the lean by flipping your drawing often. If you're drawing on paper, bring the drawing to the light and turn the page over. Helps me tons with my drawings! :)
Other than that, I love what I see here!
Thanks! I am already aware of this, and pretty much flip my pictures all the time. Sometimes though, I don't want to spend too much time on an image because I'd rather spend more time on another drawing, but I still want to draw it for fun. Hence, I will cut a few corners for the sake of speed on issues that I think not many people would probably notice, because otherwise, that picture will never get done. (and also, not collapsing my hand into a pool of jelly because I tend to be very obsessive)

That sounds pretty bad when you say it, and I do admit I have issues with taking too long on pictures. Quantity versus quality is still something I'm working on as I can. It is a difficult balance. I'll try to spend a bit more time on "lower priority" pictures and tweak the awkward slant that happens.

Self-centered post incoming... I can't help myself.

Rattata Line: Well, this isn't the self-centered part. Continuing on with the Kanto dex, we have these guys. I tried my best to make Raticate look cuter and less unappealing. Also no, I will not be drawing their Alolan variants. (In case you're wondering, I do plan on drawing them most of the Pokemon eventually, skipping only the ones that I really dislike. But that will take a long time unless I speed it up. I'm basically doing them all in order)

(Sketch) Absol Arylett Concept: You thought I was done with my Pokesona? Well, I pretty much am. (Except for a redraw of Braixen down the line.) This is just an experiment with the majesty of Absol, who has always been an old favorite I kind of got distracted from. I actually used to use this Pokemon as a Pokesona a very long time ago, during the days of Ruby/Sapphire. At first, I thought about changing it, but I'll just stick with Braixen.

118136

(Sketch) Human Arylett: I have to literally force myself to draw humans... I just don't find it fun, ugh. There will be more of those in the future, by the way. I'm making myself draw a few humans from the Pokemon series to practice.

Anyway, I wanted to have a sort of representative if I were a Pokemon trainer, as well as for other human centric things. (Although honestly, I'd rather use my fursona as a trainer, which I will probably do.) I actually am kind of proud of this one. It looks not completely terrible.

Today's Mega Post is brought to you by... Arylett's Dead Broken Hand. Because she will never learn her lesson and will go on lengthy drawing marathons when she should take breaks. I swear, it has been the Hyper Beam of art these past few days. I have to go make myself recharge for three days after that.

Gym Leader Erika: We'll start with my finished piece. Appreciate her, because she's the only human in this post of insanity. I'm actually quite proud of this one, in spite of the errors that come about as a result of me being suckish with humans. (And still having suckishness at art in general because I'm just a hobbyist and not a professional God King.)

118336

(Sketch) Braixen Arylett Revision: We start with the revisionism that I am notorious for! God, do I love going around in circles and redrawing things because I am a perfectionist! So this one's here to stay. I'm done messing around with different Pokesonas, really. I just wanted a less sloppily drawn one, as the Lucario was way cooler than mine. Gave her a little vest and made her look more scholarly.

118343

(Sketch) Bulbasaur Line Revision: More redraws. My reasoning is that I wanted to have better art for some of these classic ones like the starters, and also because some Pokemon I have a fondness for are there too. I took a while on Ivysaur in particular, because it's my favorite of all the Kanto starters and I have the most fondness for the Bulbasaur line. (Venusaur was surprisingly easy with the correct reference art.)

118337

(Sketch) Charizard Revision: Was originally going to revise Charmander... but the picture I was drawing just kind of turned into Charizard and here we are. She has a more thoughtful look on her face, rather than the usual fierce badass pose. I want to show a cuter or more majestic side to these stereotypically badass Pokemon.

118338

(Sketch) Squirtle + Wartortle Revision: I wanted to have Squirtle at a more recognizable angle, whilst Wartortle's art from before was just... lacking. Wartortle is my second favorite of the Kanto starters and I just love its wavy cute tail. I put a lot of emphasis on it.

118339

(Sketch) Pidgey + Pidgeotto Revision: The next day, I'm supposed to be resting my hand. What do I do? I go into Photoshop and revise the old drawings of these two directly... with my mouse. That's why they look so sloppy. I am planning on Pidgeot and Beedrill as well, but that is for another day... hopefully.

All your drawings are great! And that Erika art is amazing!! (y)

I can relate to the drawing-regret sentiment. V. painful. Particularly bad for me sometimes because I press so hard no matter what I'm using. It's an annoying tendency.

Wow, thanks! I'm glad you think that of Erika; I was quite picky about her due to my lack of skill in humans.

I used to press hard, but I don't really anymore. I press light, but I just erase and do so many repetitive motions that it wears on me, unfortunately. I just want to draw more all at once. @_@ Why can't hands be infinite?

Braixen Arylett 2: I colored this and gave it a ridiculously elaborate backstory that I won't be using for anything. It was just for fun. Still, I like the story, so I will add a little spoiler to it in my post if you want to read it.

THE LONG BACKSTORY FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

[This is text, not pictures, that accompanies the drawing above. It has spoilers for Sun and Moon.]

Backstory:

She volunteered her life away. One of the former Aether Foundation employees that were deceived by Dr. Faba into participating in a highly dubious experiment. Following the disastrous failure of Type: Null, Faba decided to take a different approach to creating his "Beast Killer." Instead, he decided to create a Beast Killer of human intellect, which could easily be controlled by the Aether Foundation. This young woman was part of the initial, prototype batch of subjects - before the experiments were put on the backburner for other matters.

For the experiments, her mind was converted into data and separated from her original, human body. It was then placed in a vessel Pokemon - a newborn Fennekin which had been gifted to her by the Foundation and was to be her second Pokemon. Arylett had finally been ready to care for this Fennekin, after several years of mourning the loss of her first Pokemon.

Unfortunately for her though, the procedure was largely successful. If a bit... buggy. In the initial stages, her mind fought for dominance with the Fennekin's emerging conscience, though due to its inexperience, she won out and the Fennekin's mind was forever lost. As a result, she does not remember much of this time. What remains is the distantly near memory of... vague, horrifying procedures. All of her years as a Fennekin were spent in a semi-conscious, dreamlike state.

Eventually though, she woke up from her stupor once her body evolved into a Braixen. Not knowing what to do, she languished in misery and returned herself into a catatonic state. This changed, however, when one of the other subjects (a Lucario named Lunaris) ) mounted a breakout in the chaos of a raid on Aether Paradise. The breakout was successful, though the subjects couldn't really leave the island. Following the culmination of the Lusamine-Nihelego incident, her son Gladion took over as Acting President, and the subjects were finally freed for good. Most of them chose to stay at the Foundation though, as they had been there so long that they had nowhere to go, and several of them had been so brain-damaged that they had forgotten their humanity anyway.

Arylett continued to stay in a self-inflicted unresponsive state due to her trauma, only moving to eat with a plastic fork that she had become unusually possessive of and placed in her tail in lieu of a stick. One day though, when given relaxation time in a beautiful Aether Paradise park, a branch with a beautiful red flower growing from it caught her eye. She felt an energy unlike that of anything enter her the moment she picked it up, being able to finally focus her unstable Pokemon abilities. Arylett waved the stick clumsily, performing basic fire attacks of her own will for the first time. This re-awoke her passion to live, as she discarded the plastic fork and placed it in her tail.

Following that, she was like a new person entirely. The staff was amazed by her sudden progress - she became highly interested in reading books and computer data, even regaining her ability to write, and advanced telepathic ability to communicate with humans completely. Eventually, she was offered another job for the Foundation, and given a special outfit and an oddly shaped Firium-Z to signify that her special status. (And grant her immunity to being captured by trainers) Her experiences made her keenly concentrated on the ethical treatment of people and Pokemon, and she desired to continue to help.

So, she went to travel Alola to heal and rescue injured Pokemon. However, journeying alone was not easy, nor was it something the Foundation recommended, despite her insistence. She was attacked by former Team Skull members that became frustrated with their inability to capture her. Lunaris, the Lucario from before, had shown up to drive them off. Earlier, he had chosen to leave the Foundation and roam around Alola... inflicting justice upon criminals in acts of vigilantism. From then on, he decided to escort her on her mission.

Currently, the two travel the region to continue helping others. They try to avoid attention as much as possible. Though some locals have noticed their appearances, they generally regard them kindly, and are aware of her position as a Pokemon "owned" by the Aether Foundation.

Awesome art, and I like the backstory you wrote, too!
I'm glad to hear that. I was kind of self-conscious about it. ^^;

Prime-L: Reflection: I come in, and I SLAM THIS ON THE TABLE. My God, I worked on this one. It was for a contest, not my character or design.

[Scene] Overwhelmed: It's sloppy and full of anatomy/perspective errors... but I still like it. It's a new style I'm trying, called "Scene Style." It's just supposed to be quick and dirty, to get the point across of a scene that is happening, without me having to spend days working on it like I did with the art in the last post. (Still took way too long, mind you. But not nearly as long as it would've taken had I tried it in my normal style) Anyway, this one is from a story I wrote in a roleplay I recently joined.

Okay! We're back in business! Let me see what I've got in my bag here.... oh! It's a few things.

[Scene] Sun and Shadow: More scene style. These arts are from a roleplay I recently worked on, which is now finished.
121216

[Quick Sketch] Eosperis: A fakemon I made! Fairy/Psychic. Got lots of crazy lore about it, but I'll post of that later, when I create a cleaner image. I couldn't be satisfied with my Braixen, sadly. And... well... I've given up on writing my original story, for various reasons. So other than a character of mine from an MMO, I have decided this to be my prime representation of myself for the moment. My strange, obsessive quirk to be represented by a creature so specifically... I realize it must be strange to anyone who isn't me.

Base Eosperis (with shiny):

And here is me, Arylett, as an Eosperis:

Been using all of my hand energy on playing Final Fantasy 14, so I haven't had much left over for art. Here's some stuff I made a few weeks ago though.

[Scene] The Talk: More scene style. These arts are from a roleplay I recently worked on, which is now finished.

[Sketch] Arylett the Viis: Attempt at drawing my Final Fantasy 14 character. (The lady in my avatar.) Kinda eh on this one. I like it, but I also sort of hate it. At least, the forward-facing one. I don't draw humanlikes too often, so it tends to be a frustrating process for me. But I plan on drawing a proper image of this woman later. For now, here's this... thing.

It has been over a year, but I revive this. I had an art block for a long while, but am starting to plow through it.

[Pokemon] Bulbasaur Line: Revamp of an old image.

[Pokemon] Charmander Line: Another revamp. Now featuring Mega Charizard X.

EX2Lvi7U4AEKDlO

[Final Fantasy] Protectors of the Planet [FF7]: Attempt to get out of my comfort zone by practicing humans. I have never managed to successfully refine my style of them, so here you go. Featuring Red XIII so I don't get too bored drawing so many people. [I definitely prefer creatures.]

If you've probably noticed by now, yes, I do adore drawing things inside of neat, little templates with their names in them.

[Digimon] Liollmon Line - Did one of these with Digimon too. Just practicing various lion men and such for an original project I'll be working on later.

[Final Fantasy] Sorceress and Knights [FF8] - Sequel to the FF7 one. Took me a long while to get this one done due to my pickiness with Rinoa. Just couldn't get her right. Tried a more ambitious pose here with her. My humans are still a work in progress, as always.

[Digimon Concept] Renamon Front + Side - Just some quick practice. I won't be coloring these.

EciOqVAU0AI829Z

EciOqVBU0AAlHLP

[Digimon Concept] Kudamon + Reppamon + Quetzalmon - Finalizing my own personal Digimon partner's digivolution line. I'll be drawing the Mega [final one in the evolution sequence] later, as well as coloring it like I did with the Liollmon line.

EciPuN-UcAAkZTJ

[Pokemon Concept] Butterfree - I'm plodding along with drawing some of the Kanto Pokemon in order and this one took me waaay too long to sketch. So many doodles of Butterfree. It's harder for me to make look good than I thought. Will be coloring later though.
Eesop0SU0AABTYu

[Original Concept] Arylett Charnoa - Bringing back this character. Took me a lot, a lot, A LOT of art and obsession to get to a drawing and design I liked. This is basically my original fursona. This time, I gave her a wand. I may or may not color this drawing later, depending on whether my liking of it sticks. I hope I can make a final version of this sona soon though.

[Original Concept] Arylett's Aeon: More concepts for an original series I've been working on way, way, way, way too long without starting. The smaller one is mostly finalized and will likely be included as Arylett's familiar, but the larger form is pending. Summon monsters, similar to those of Final Fantasy, will exist in the series. But I'm not sure if Arylett would use them. If she does, her familiar would have the ability to turn into one. The larger form is its battle-ready summon form.

Ee2GI2xXsAAsEYM

[Original Concept] Arylett's Mecha: Mechs may or may not exist in my series, again depending on how I feel. [As a technological counterpart to the summon monsters, contrasting their more natural origins.] Which means that I might give Arylett a mech instead of her own summon. Still thinking on this.
