some don't exactly match the types, but they were chosen by the themes of the design (eg grass has pompom oricorio because she's a cheerleader)

I can’t wait to see your art of them!! Are you going to incorporate these teams into the pieces as well?

And happy Halloween everyone!! I wanted to draw something for it (like usual) but my deadlines just didn’t allow for it. Oh well…! I’ll just draw even more gothic stuff to make up for it. I remember an old Deviantart tradition was to draw your OCs in costume, did you guys ever do that, or with any characters?

I drew the Kalos anime quartet in Halloween costumes last year, but I think I lost it

Ouugh, artist friends, I'm feeling pretty self conscious about my art and style again, but I hope the insecurities will pass. Take this as my reminder to keep drawing, and even when you're unsure of yourself draw anyway-- or look at your older pieces for motivation to see how much you've improved!

Blanc, I just wanted to say I really love your art! I’m not sure if you have an art thread here, but I was looking at some of the staff’s tumblrs through the main bulbagarden one (I don’t have one though) and found yours. If this makes you feel any better, at least the art on there is super good!! I hope you feel better about your art soon! :bulbaLove::bulbaLove::bulbaLove::bulbaLove::bulbaHugs::bulbaHugs::bulbaHugs::bulbaHugs:

Thank you Lissi, this was really sweet to wake up to TT TT My art thread is linked in my signature! But it’s right here too (It gets a little lost often, LOL). It means a lot you like my art, more than I can put into words. Like any artist I get bouts of insecurity about my style and sometimes compare myself to others… but!

You always have to keep in mind everyone’s art experiences are personalized, and rather than beating yourself up, you need to use others’ pieces as motivation! It’s still hard even for me sometimes though… Genuinely thank you for believing in me. I will keep drawing as long as I can.

My quest for myself and everyone today is to find things that motivate you!

You’re welcome!! I’m on mobile so i didn’t see your Sig, but seeing posts from your and everyone else’s art threads is always great for me to see! I only really got into art about a year ago, so I love finding inspiration from other peoples art! (Also I need a better sense of motivation lol… i tried writing a fic just for my friends and ended up not writing for a really long time then dumping five chapters on them.. I’m really hoping to fix that with my webcomic!)

What's up, fellow sketchers and scribblers...so my art program recently had some kind of dramatic breakup with my tablet and no longer wants to acknowledge that it exists. Looking through the bug reports, it looks like this is a somewhat common glitch where the program won't recognize an input device, and it doesn't look like it's close to being solved. I've done everything in my power, including un/reinstalling both the program and tablet drivers, to get them to connect, and nothing has fixed it...so for the time being, I can't use GIMP to draw anymore. :sadsola:

So I'm looking for a new art program to use! Problem is I don't want to just go into something blind...do you guys have any recommendations? It has to be free (with no ads or anything like that, cause I did come across one that apparently had ads?), but other than that I'm willing to try anything user-friendly that has good brushes (preferably some kind of blending brush I can use for my dramatic shading) and a flexible UI.
(For what it's worth, I do have a CSP Pro code, but it's only for a trial and I don't feel like learning a whole new program if I can only use it for two years .__.)

Um I don’t know much about art programs, as the only ones I’ve ever used are sketchbook from the apple App Store and procreate, my current art program. Guessing you use an art tablet though, so I’m not sure if you can get those on there. Sorry if I’m no help!

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, Disc!! GIMP has been such a solid software for so long too... Sucks it ended its relationship with your tablet. :( I have some friends that use Krita or Medibang, if you want something simple, Fire Alpaca has withstood the test of time of being a really nice, user friendly software. I haven't used or know of anyone who uses Corel Painter, but I believe that's another?

I know you want a free program, but twice a year CSP goes on sale for about 25 USD if you're willing to pay that much. Hope it helps a little...

From what I remember of my time using GIMP, I think Paint.NET may be your closest alternative? Their UI layout/customizability is pretty darn similar, and IIRC they have relatively comparable brush types and features (though admittedly the last time I used either of them was sometime early last decade, things may have diverged a bit since then). I've also heard plenty of good things about Krita, but never tried it myself.

Personally I used MediBang and FireAlpaca for yeaaars before I switched over to CSP PRO, and I do still open them sometimes for certain things CSP just can't do as easily... MediBang is a bit more in-depth and has more tools for illustration than FireAlpaca, but FA is very no-frills and easy to use (and it also allows animation if you're into that kind of thing). Otherwise, they're near identical. I recommend giving one or the other a try sometime :chansey:

My personal favorite was Fire Alpaca before I moved over to the paid CSP. Though I heard Krita is better when it comes to coloration. Though the animation capabilities of Fire alpaca do have to be taken with a grain of salt. Last time I used Fire Alpaca it had to use an external browser feature to save animations as a gif. But ngl, it's decent enough that it has onionskin mode so that makes the animating process pretty easy.

Thanks for the suggestions, all :bulbaWave: - after doing a bit of research I'm currently hovering between Krita and MediBang. I'm leaning more toward Krita, since it's got a lot of documentation so I have a place to start with all the different tools and stuff also the UI just looks nicer visually, is that a valid reason?. I'll give it some more thought over the next few days (and continue messing around with MS Paint in the meantime lol).

Edit: whatever I end up picking, I've decided to hold off on downloading it until mid-December - I've got a big final paper coming up and I think trying to learn a new art program would be too much of a distraction lol. so instead I'm gonna think of it as a reward for when I finish c:

I’ve also just got procreate dreams! Some of the features from normal procreate are missing and that’s annoying, plus my ipad battery’s really low so it’s being slow, but I think it will be easier once I get the hang of it!

Hello! If you want an art program that's pretty easy to use off the bat, I suggest FireAlpaca. You can change the layout and stuff. Sometimes I've heard it being called a Photoshop alternative.

Does anyone else here have procreate dreams? I’m finding it quite confusing and slightly annoying, and googles no help. I’ve been using the flip book for now, but if anyone can help it would be great!
