Hello! I really, really like PMD, so I thought that maybe I should post some of my PMD headcanons here!

If you have anything PMD related you want me to share headcanons about, or even come up with on the spot, feel free to make requests here!

To start with, here's the timeline of my PMD world!

  • 3000 years ago: First mystery dungeons form. Events of Adventure Squad occur. First battle with Dark Matter.
  • 500 years ago: Mewtwo shows up, builds the Power Plant and Abandoned Lab, though shortly after flees from public view.
  • 35 years ago: Events of Rescue Team DX occur.
  • 27 years ago: Events of Explorers of Sky occur.
  • 6 years ago: Events of Gates to Infinity occur.
  • 5 years ago: Events of Super Mystery Dungeon occur.
  • 4 years ago: The World-Savers' Council is formed.
  • 1 year ago: The Shadow Crisis begins.
  • Current year: A new human is summoned to the world.

The Basics of Itemcrafting
Almost every equippable item (and more!) you can obtain in the PMD games can be crafted!
There are six main categories of craftable items: Scarves, Orbs, Glasses, Looplets, Wands, and Flags.
Each has a slightly different way of crafting them.

The Basic Ingredients
The most commonly required ingredient for itemcrafting is emera dust. It easily binds to cloth, fabric, and glass, is a binding agent for many other materials, and is a sort of "catalyst" for enchanting objects into items with effects.
The other ingredients can vary wildly, from crushed up seeds and berry juice, to ground petals and leaves from certain plants, to rocks and plants from certain places, to entire other items, to metaphysical concepts such as close proximity to a strong connection between people.

Scarves
There's actually two different methods to crafting these, each producing slightly different results:
  • Dissolving all the ingredients in water, and soaking some cloth or fabric in that water. This takes less time, but generally only allows one effect to be added, and can't really be used for more complex scarves, like reunion capes.
  • Mashing the ingredients into a paste, spreading the paste on cloth or fabric, and letting it ingrain. This takes more time, but allows multiple effects to be added, though adding multiple effects diminishes the effectiveness of each, and can be used for more complex scarves.

Orbs
First, a plain glass sphere is made, then it's soaked in water. Then various ingredients are added, you wait a while, then take the freshly crafted orb out of the water. Emera dust is required for any kind of wonder orb.

Glasses
The lenses are what's enchanted here! Similarly to orbs, glass is soaked in water with various things dissolved in it, except instead of spheres, it's lenses.
There's many varieties of these, for Pokemon with more or less than two eyes, and for Pokemon with eyes on the front of their head or on the sides.

Looplets
These are usually put together via making several pieces that will comprise the looplet, then sticking them together, though while they're being put together, a thin layer of the ingredients needed is added to to the edges of the pieces, helping them stick together, and enchanting the looplet.

Wands
These only require three ingredients: A stick of wood, emera dust, and water. Soak the wood in water, add in emera dust, wait for the emera dust to finish collecting on the stick, and you have a wand! The type of wand made depends on the type of wood used. Bits of emera dust flake off with every use, so you'll occasionally have to "recharge" it by repeating the crafting process.

Flags
These are essentially a scarf attatched to an oak wand, combined with a strong bond. Attatch enchanted cloth or fabric to an oak wand, take it with you while you spend time with someone important to you, and your flag will be ready to go, bestowing its effect onto anyone near you that has a connection with you.

There are many different types of mystery dungeons in my PMD world. Here are some of them:

Regular - Your average, run-of-the-mill mystery dungeons. Well, "average", as these can still vary a lot, from the grand and imposing Temporal Tower, to the quaint and peaceful Autumn's Rest. These are mystery dungeons that don't fit into any of the other categories, and tend to have a mysteriousity level of 1 to 40.

Sky Dungeons - Essentially the same as regular mystery dungeons, but in the sky. A key difference between these and regular mystery dungeons, though, is that these have no floor, and must be traversed purely via flight or levitation. Updrafts or downdrafts replace the staircases here, and these dungeons have the same mysteriousity range as regular mystery dungeons.

Pseudodungeons - These are't really mystery dungeons, as they share few of the features that other mystery dungeons have. They don't have dungeon Pokemon, items coming into existence, or floors. They do share the space-warping properties, though, and are very difficult to navigate, often requiring seemingly nonsensical directions in order to get to where you want to go. They are places with just barely too little mysteriousity to be proper mystery dungeons, and tend to have a mysteriousity level of 0.9 to 0.999.

Magnagates - Artificial mystery dungeons that link two points on the planet. Summoned into existence with a configuration of entercards, but dissipate away before too long. Though usually long enough for everyone to traverse through them, thankfully. These always have a mysteriousity level that can be derived to an equation of π, and tend to range from π to 4π².

Restrictive Dungeons - These are dungeons that restrict what you can bring into them, whether that be teammates, items, or even combat skills. They tend to be some of the longest mystery dungeons in the world, often being 99 floors long. They tend to have a mysteriousity level of 40 to 100.

Mirage Dungeons - As far as anyone can tell, these mystery dungeons, as they appear, don't exist anywhere on the planet. They seem to occur when one mystery dungeon intersects with another, and any Pokemon at the point of intersection are warped away to wherever these exist, only to be warped back shortly afterwards. Mirage dungeons take the appearance of other mystery dungeons, and figuring out why they appear as specific other dungeons is a subject of much debate. They tend to have a mysteriousity level over 100.

Illusory Grottos - The most elusive type of mystery dungeon, only existing for hours at a time. Said to appear before those who have recently suffered a great loss, and are filled with various reviving items, including even revive all orbs. They're so rare, that some believe their existence to be a myth. They always have a mysteriousity level of exactly 1.
