So which is the best backup method to save, protect, move your files? External Drives or Online Cloud?

External Drives pros:
- They are portable
- Relatively cheap
- You don't always have to be online to access your stuff

External Drives cons:
- Even if they are cheap, you still have to spend some money on it
- Stuff can be lost when the drive is broken/dropped in water/stolen/etc

Online Cloud pros:
- You don't have to carry anything on your body
- Most portal/community sites offer free storage from around several gigabytes to a hundred (if they are generous)
- At least you don't have to worry about anything physically stolen

Online Cloud cons:
- You need to have Internet access, which can be difficult if you live in a remote area with poor net connection
- If the portal/community closes down, you have to move all your stuff to somewhere else before they get lost

Personally, I keep backups in both forms. You can never be too careful, see.
