"I guess that's me left," Kai muttered for a moment. "I'm sure I won't be able to top Genji or Zelda though," he added with laughter as he walked forward, staring at the examinee. "Kaiser Villier," he said instantly, having decided to use Serah's last name. "As for my Skill," he smiled before taking out a razor and cutting his arm a little, blood began to float out before materializing into a scythe as the wound closed. Kai heled onto the scythe, spinning around once to slash at the air, cutting through it before the scythe quickly morphed into a spear that he stabbed forward with, stopping right in front of the examineer. "Good enough?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
The examinee looked at Bria qith an inquisitive expression fo ra moment before shrugging and allowing her to pass.
"We gotta give her a treat," Kai pointed out as he walked forward, motioning for everyone to follow. "All right guys, let's see what's ahead for us."
As the group walked into the stadium they could hear the sound of the crowd chanting reverberating throughout the walls, this was then followed by the entrance they had taken to be closed immediately, prohibiting anyone else from going in. "All those that have been accepted, please proceed towards the stadium ground," they could hear a voice throughout the hall's intercoms.
Once they were in the center of the stadium they finally saw the full scope of things. Even though it was only one part of the prelims taking place in one section of the South Continent there were at least 500 people all gathered in the stadium's arena. All from different walks of life and with different demeanors that made them stand out. "So uh...I'm starting to feel sick...is that normal?" Liza asked nervously.
Suddenly a large virtual screen appeared above the mass of people, towering over the stadium as the face of a man with dark skin, long curly black hair and wearing a white, pristine suit appeared. "Good day everybody," the man greeted, his tone sounding excited but also formal. "My name is Atala Seirei, president of White Wing Oils and many other things," he said dismissively, waving his hand back. "But anyways. I'd like to welcome you all to Karneval! the first of hopefully many tournaments hosted by me, all for you Skill Users looking to find good opponents and the masses that are coming to find some good entertainment," he announced, his smile widening. "As you all know, right now Karneval is in its preliminary stages, taking place in multiple places around the world to gather some o fthe best Skill Users around."
At that moment the screen lit up, showing an image of every single one of the people gathered in the arena, even that of Knight's Void. "Five hundred and twenty people have gathered at this venue today, and it's just perfect if you ask me," he pointed out with a grin. "So this is how the prelims will work. "While I've gathered you all in this stadium, the prelims aren't actually happening here, instead I have set up multiple private "battle grounds" around each of the hosting cities where participants can go. There they challenge whoever they want to a fight or just watch other fights take place. The simple rule here is...you have to defeat at least five people during the next three days, it doesn't matter if you lose to some as long as you beat five by the time the three days are up. Once that happens, those that remain will be contacted and meet up here once more. Such is the first round of the prelims, Battle City. Also, how you go about getting your wins is up to you, you can even team up with other participants or even get non participants to help you."
Kai and Liza stared at the screen as Atala spoke, at first weirded out and then worried about the rules for the prelims. It really turned the city into a jungle, but they couldn't help but worry about the public's own well being during those situations if things were to get out of hand. "This...could be a problem," Liza pointed out, she wasn't used to having to fight in such an environment, and remembering that a lot of their members had pretty dangerous powers didn't help matters either.
Juliet meanwhile was grinning. It would be easy enough for her to play the weak damsel in distress, lure a few fighters to their deaths, notch her five wins then get back to the library. "Now this... this I like." She couldn't hide her glee, not that she wanted to.
"I would advise against us teaming up. Would be too obvious." Rick added.
"Oh," Atala's voice rang out once more, he seemed to have been startled by something as he looked at someone outside of the screen's range. "Oh, you...changed things around? well that's not fun," the man frowned, remembering he was still live before turning back towards the crowd. "Okay it seems like there has been a slight...change to things," he said, his voice sounding more bitter now. "The five wins quota is still in play, however you'll each be receiving a device that will keep a tally of the people you defeat, treating them as points, you can take down as many as you like," he began to say, though it sounded like he was reading something. "And at certain points during the next three days you'll be notified to go fight against a specific opponent, you'll be going up against five during the next three days and the winner of the fights will receive all of the points obtained from the loser's previous fights. By the end of the three days those that remain and have the most points will pass to the next round. "
Juliet frowned at this. It would be a complication. "So much for that." She muttered, irritated at the fact she wouldn't be able to spend most of the next three days in the library.
Rick shrugged. He didn't care. He would fight anyone at any time.
