For those familiar with our last tournament, Bulbaleague Conference (Random Battle Tournament) ,the general rules are the same, but now in a Gen 4 format.A Gen 4 Random Battle tournament in anticipation for the new Pokémon games.
For those unfamiliar, let me explain the tournament
Format: [Gen 4] Random Battle (Singles)
Where: The battles will be played on Pokémon Showdown. If you are unfamiliar with this site, it's a pokemon battle simulator that can be played in your browser. To play you do have to make an account, but it's completely free.
When: Sign ups will stay open for 2 week. It will close on the 6th of September, 10pm (noon) CEST(+2) Countdown timer. After that the competition will start and you have a 2 week period per round to arrange a date / time and play with your opponent. We do however highly recommend that you try to do it within a single week. If you already know you opponent for the round after, feel free to plan ahead of schedule.
We will update the progress of the tournament here, so make sure to check in here often. Next to that we will be using Challonge, a tournament bracket website to keep track of the matches.
The top cuts will earn unique and prestigious forum badges!
Tournament Format
(might change depending on the amount of sign ups)
Phase 1
Round Robin
Round Robin
- You face all players in your pool
- Pool size is currently set to 4 but might change depending on the amount of sign ups
- This guarantees everyone can play several rounds.
- The Best 2 players of each pool move on.
- Double Elimination Format (If you lose 2 times you're out of the competition)
- Those who placed second in Phase 1 will start in the Loser bracket, and thus already have a loss.
- If the Loser bracket finalist wins the first finals match against the Winner bracket finalist, another decisive match has to be played.
What happens in a tie in the scoring system?
Scores are first and foremost based on the amount of matches won. Ties are broken in the following order
1. Score Difference - You gain points for each remaining pokemon you had available at the end of a match and you lose points for each remaining pokemon your opponent had at the end of a match. (If a player forfeits during the match it will count as if that player had 0 pokemon remaining).
2. Win VS Tied participant - If the score difference results in 2 players still being tied then the winner of their respective match will come out on top.
3. Points - If there is still a tie we will compare the amount of points gained from your pokemon remaining in all your matches. This means it will not lower your score for each pokemon your opponent had remaining.
4. ??? - If there is still a tie I will figure out a new way to break it, potentially having a tie breaker match.
