I wish drinking at work wasn't just acceptable but encouraged.

You haven't worked where I did. Beers all around.

Anyway I think it comes with intimidation with height. I mean to seem tall does put off a lot of guys.

Yes, in all seriousness, it's not viable when you have to work.

Re: The Bulbagarden Conversational Chat Thread Vol 5

My step dad made a big deal tonight about this one time where I used "bad manners" at a restaurant. It was a while ago, all I did was push some salad into a take-out box with my hand. I could understand it being a problem if I was eating the salad with my hands, but I wasn't. He described this behavior as "barbaric" and "embarrassing", I really think he's freaking out over something really minor. Would any of you actually give a shit if you saw somebody doing that at a restaurant?

No I wouldn't, because I have terrible table manners. xDDD I would probably do the same thing.

I would not find this bad at all. I find it completely normal, and in Greece, lots of people do much more "bad-mannered" things on restaurants that are considered pretty normal.
I don't know if this is good or bad to say about my country... but it happens.

I'd say good, because overkill table manners are extremely annoying and pointless. Obviously there has to be some rules, but things like "don't put your elbows on the table" seem really stupid. Maybe at like important business meetings or something.

So you used your hands to put your salad into a take out box...so what. I've done the same thing with my food. He's just overreacting if you ask me.

At a restaurant, yeah it is bad manners. He has a point, I mean if it was home then go nuts but it is bad manners in a public place.

I would call it bad manners on a lux restaurant or a business meal... but not on a take-out.

It is a public place though, using your hands unless you are eating finger food is a just not right.

eh, yeah, to an extent, he just blew it out of proportion
We ate at a restaurant today for easter, without him, he explained to me that his reason for not eating with us was because my "salad handling" made him worried about what else I'd do in public. If he just casually suggested that I don't do it again, sure, but lettuce be honest, freaking out about it that much is fairly ridiculous. There are things one could do in a restaurant that are much more impolite than simply pushing some salad into a box.

on the subject of salad, I initially read this as "waifu dressing".

Re: The Bulbagarden Conversational Chat Thread Vol 5

Firstly your pun/play on words sucks. I just want you to realize that.

Anyway yes there are worse things you can do but it doesn't justify the point he has. Think about this, I punch someone in the face sending him to hospital, it is bad but I could have done worse. It doesn't mean what I did was in the right.

If you do this in a restaurant with handling food with your hands, what is stopping you from eating with your hands, not using a napkin or using a fork in your normal hand. He has a point, a restaurant is dining, it is simply handling yourself with manners while indulging in cuisine. If you want to use your hands, go to KFC.

You showed bad manners, simple as that. If you didn't use your hands and used two forks or two spoons to move salad, then this wouldn't be a problem right?

... I don't want to sound harsh, but you should come as a tourist in Greece sometime.
Better not, you would most probably get disgusted by lots of things.
