Over here, holiday houses are dear, and all the older houses erode from the sea salt. Seriously, it's over 1 million bucks for some small container (I literally mean container, something to put your stuff in) on the beach.

We used to have a holiday "home" (apartment really) here in America while we were living abroad but after several decent renters we ended up with some who completely trashed the place. On the other hand, if you leave a place unoccupied people will just break in and trash it even worse. One of my friends' holiday houses ended up getting broken into and used as a bloody meth lab. ^=__=^;; Very surprising that both of those things happened here in America whereas all the people I've known who had vacation homes in third world countries never had this problem. Although honestly I'm not sure if they hired armed guards to keep constant watch on the place (I mean, we have those for our regular houses back home so maybe?).

As for investment portfolios, dad keeps trying to get me to make one but I can't be arsed. I have no faith in the stock market like the paranoid person I am. :p When I'm old I'll probably be one of those crotchety people who doesn't even trust banks and just buries cash in the backyard. :ROFLMAO:

I hear a lot of people complaining about how they can't get a job with a degree. A lot has changed these days. Those days are so gone. Now it is about getting a lot of experience from everywhere and knowing people.

I so wouldn't be where I am without knowing people like career wise.

I can confirm this is true. I think that's pretty much the minimum. Case and point, I ended up not getting the internship position at Google because they didn't have the need for me. However, I do know lots of Googlers and I know that I will be able to get a job at Google within the next few years. In the meantime, I still have other offers for the summer thanks to my connections.

If I move away at some point, I'll definitely go somewhere that has a lot of public transport if possible. That's not the most comfortable situation, especially not trams, but it will getcha from point A to point B well enough.

I agree, though I would love to be near freeways also that still have single detached houses. Luckily, I know a place in the Bay Area that I should buy a place sometime within the next 20 years.

Right...well that was fun?...

Anyway new topic. Why everyone should have a holiday house and an investment portfolio. Why? Because it is important.

I don't know if I can over afford such a house. An investment portfolio? Well, I have some money that I made over the summer that's in such in account that I opened back in high school. Hopefully future me will thank me for that.

Over here, holiday houses are dear, and all the older houses erode from the sea salt. Seriously, it's over 1 million bucks for some small container (I literally mean container, something to put your stuff in) on the beach.

Sounds like Santa Cruz and/or San Francisco.

I wouldn't mind having a vacation home. That requires having the money to afford it, however.

I can afford the occasional convention, but not a vacation home.

Best part about working other than getting paid is a fun spinning office chair. That and I get paid.

I always thought the best part was when your boss greatly overestimates the time it will take you to finish a project so you get it done in like an hour and can spend the next two weeks getting paid to fuck around online/playing handheld games in your office. (seriously, why would it take me two weeks to translate a four-page document, m8?)

Yeah...you do that...

Rather do work and do something more productive but whatever floats your boat and gets you going.

Pacing is better than I can work productively and juggle everything solidly while I study and do other stuff that's important.

Hum? Well, it was a summer internship when I was a teenager. I haven't had to bother getting a job in like a decade and a half. Too busy studying.

Best part of my job, other than getting paid, is the automation trade shows I get to attend.

All those robots in one place. It's just absolutely amazing.

Did you ever watch that Robot Combat League show on SyFy? I thought the idea was pretty cool but the random twists in the show were kinda dumb. Just let the smart people build and battle their bots, why make it weird? Although personally I can't even build a computer :p (then again I have no space for a desktop so I've never really tried)

Aweh, that show looks so much cooler. I'll have to look it up on youtube or something when I'm done with finals.

So I was walking to my bus stop after work. I heard this woman talking about how women these days dress up like hookers.

Like one of those old people that are like "Get off my lawn!!!"

Imagine thinking that.

I think I'm cursed or something. I'm losing video games left and right! First it's my old Alpha Sapphire, then an extra copy of Black, and now my Soul Silver game, with all my events and shinies!

@Juliko ... do you have a pet? Pets are known for eating really weird stuff. I've heard of them eating collars, Christmas tree ornaments, jewelry, clothing, rocks...

I've got a pet cockatiel. She's a lutino and is absolutely adorable.
She'll nibble on pretty much anything she can get her beak on, including my face, once in a while.
