I hate curve- and percentile-based grading systems. I don't like when my scores are so dependent on how everyone else has done. Screw those guys, let them succeed or fail on their own.
I understand the frustration, but unfortunately we are in a competitive society. When someone has a need of X people, they'll take the X best ones, and this can exclude capable people just because there were too many of them.

Or include people who aren't capable just cause a curve bumped their grade up

I've been through several. But nothing like that. It really sounds weird...

It was this special program, the International Baccalaureate. You had to achieve a certain overall score (24 out of 42 + 3 bonus points) on all exams to get your diploma, so even though a 1 is technically a pass, you'd have to get high enough scores on the rest of the exams to actually graduate. I know that the European version is a bit different from the American one though, which considers a 4 and above a passing grade. But yeah, they made us do a lot of weird stuff.

Once I got a 99 on a test and the curve only went up by one point, giving me a 100 and other people just one point. Quite a few people failed that test and wanted to strangle that one person with the 99. Sorry for studying, I guess. Class was full of lazy kids who just wanted to get by with the belief that the school was full of kids as lazy as they were.

I've heard of said program but didn't know how its scoring works.
I'm not really sure about how the European one works either. Although I bumped upon one of its calculus tests, it seemed easy compared to the one we had to study for the national exams for university admission.

Ha.

Ha.

Obviously you don't do law.
Nope I do business and econ. Don't have the money or time to be a doctor and law is irrelevant to me.

Originally i wanted to be a neurosurgeon but that's too much school and no way to pay it. While I can write a great essay my number memorization skills are subpar making me not pursue law. Business and economics is the next best thing so I took them. While homework is a big part of econ I get by on test and business Im just flying by.

I guess you do law? Sounds hard...
Engineering is quite hard as well.

Law was irrelevant to me as well. Although I never really liked the idea of becoming a doctor, I was leaning more towards engineering.

Business and economics sound interesting as well, I was considering that too; I actually have a few courses about it in my current class and I like them for the most part.

I could have gone into medicine but It wasn't for me. I had the marks.
Same here. Although I couldn't have gone into law because the marks about those two work differently here.

Law is out of 99.95, around 96ish. Medicine is around the same.
Over here the best score is 20000. Medicine needs around 18500 and law needs 17000 in most cases. But you have to achieve those scores from completely different subjects anyway.

For me, I originally wanted to major in both Applied Physics and Computer Science. Mainly went for Physics because I wanted to be really good with Math. Didn't want to pursue a full on Math degree as I felt it wasn't for me. As for Computer Science, well I do want to at least have the chance to stay in Silicon Valley. As of now, I'm still majoring in Applied Physics and minoring in CS.

In hindsight, I probably should have gone to a school with an Applied Math and Statistics program. And perhaps a school with Civil Engineering or at least a transportation planning program. As much as I enjoyed and passionate about my technical subjects, there are other subjects that I thoroughly enjoy more.

I don't regret my choices though and I think I would be saying different things if I was in Civil Engineering, Planning, Math, Law, Economics, etc programs for my undergrad. Anything that is heavy with numbers and very technical usually interests me.

I can feel the dillema, I like both of those about the same as well. Down to the point that I wouldn't like a full-on Math degree either, too much theory for my liking. Silicon Valley obviously never was a dream for me, though.

I think everyone makes such thoughts in hindsight, there's always something we wish we would've pursued years ago. So no need to feel too bad about it, you're not alone :)

That part about saying different thing if you actually were there may be true... but since you are not, there's probably no point to think of what could have happened and feel bad about it if you don't regret your choices.

I'm looking at doing a double degree including either two types of science (it's weird here about science) or a science and accounting. I know, but very ranged.

I think about my choices. Could have bought this outfit or that outfit or I wonder about if I can get something on sale on the internet. My life is amazing anyway, so whatever.

@Pikochu, physics or chem I think. Not really Biology. I love my math, so physics would suit me I think. How are you going with your studies?
