No point in regrets. Besides, everything that's happened to us, good or bad, makes us who we are today. The only thing you can do about the past is learn from your mistakes and do better going forward.

@Pikochu, physics or chem I think. Not really Biology. I love my math, so physics would suit me I think. How are you going with your studies?

Thank gosh it's summer vacation and I get to work on side projects that's not related to Physics. It's also a huge relief now that I can finally switch to Physics in the fall so it's all good.

I only have to complete my Senior Thesis, Advanced Physics Lab, Quantum Mechanics and one more elective and I can finally get my degree in Physics.

@Pikochu ~ splain somethin to me, m8. The hell does Schrodinger's cat have to do with physics? It sounds more like a philosophy thought problem than anything to do with physics. (figured I'd ask since you mentioned quantum mechanics)

@Pikochu. That's good. Although, it's weird for me because I'm in the middle of winter. Some forums are having summer competitions and I'm just not in the summer spirit (which is also the Christmas spirit over here). I actually like rain, and redheads like me aren't too good with heat and sun.

I can not believe that 'Leave' as won. This is one of the biggest blunders I can think of. It just shows that scaremongering works. It is so sad.

Here's a simplified but hopefully rigousout explanation of Schrodinger's Cat. Let me properly set up Schrodinger's cat:

There's a cat that is under a bunker with a Quantum Mechanically behaved poison. If the poison is released, the cat is dead and if the poison hasn't been released, the cat is alive. The thing in Quantum Mechanics though is that you don't know the result and you can't exactly predict the outcome of an experiment until it's actually done.

We would typically write above situation before the bunker is open as Result = constant*{result dead+result alive]. In everyday terms, you would say: "The cat has a 50% chance of being alive and 50% chance of being dead. We don't know the fate of the cat until we open the bunker."

Now the main issue is the implication of the cat being "alive and dead" at the same time. When you open the bunker, the "universe" forces the cat to either be alive or dead. And of course, if the cat is dead, since you're the one who opened the bunker, you technically killed the cat.

Schrodinger's cat thought experiment is to show how absurd Quantum Mechanics can be when applied to everyday classical objects. Yet at the subatomic level, the superposition of things being all at once does happen. For the record, it's the Quantum Mechanical poison that decides the fat of the cat, not the cat being "dead and alive" at the same time.

The question becomes though is what happens to the superposition once the superposition is forced to "decide." There's the "many-world interpretation QM" where all possible events of the superposition happens in other universes. There's the "Copenhagen Interpretation of QM" where the "superposition collapses" which is why Schrodinger's Cat thought experiment is trying to comment on. Here's a list of the interpretations of QM. It's worth saying that all the interpretations of QM are mathematically equivalent so now we just need to determine which interpretation is correct through experiments.

It's a lot to take in about Schrodinger's Cat but it does say a lot about QM itself. Hopefully my explanation isn't too hard to understand and that it isn't wrong. I'll be more than happy to answer questions and correct this post if there are any inaccuracies.

Well that makes more sense. Thanks m8. I just kept getting hung up on the whole "alive and dead at the same time" part and was like, how is this not philosophy along the lines of "I think, therefore I am," and that other theory about how nothing is real, and couldn't figure out what part of it had anything to do with physics. But now I know! And knowing is half the battle. :D

It sure is a really interesting thought experiment, but the way it is explained can make it sound more complicated than it really is, even though the point was to use the cat as an example so that it is simpler to understand. I even know of people who thought that actual cats were harmed during the experiments :(

Ah I miss the blog feature. And being able to stick around in a comminty for longer than a day or so and then weeks upon weeks of absence. Anyway. Sleep depraved rambles aside I really do hope no more shitty things happen this year. We've had enough to last three years as we're only halfway through this. Hope y'all keep safe and all that. Sorry again for my sleepy bullshit rambles

Speaking of blogs, I keep thinking I should make some more entries but I'm not sure of what kinds of things to write about...

I don't know what the definition of a blog is to be honest. I should start, but I don't know what to do.

The general definition of a blog can be easily found online or maybe even offline.
As for blogs in Bulbagarden, they are a nice way to talk at a bit more personal level than what some threads offer.

I use blogs to try to arrange community related activities. :) Blogs are a nice way to interact w/ other members of the community.

Agreed, although I still find myself not having many things to blog about.
I'm the kind of person who doesn't feel like talking too much about his life in the open; not out of shame, more out of not wanting to brag.

I just blog about endless stuff. I don't want people to know that much of my life. Anyway I miss playing football.

I don't find it easy to come up with that kind of stuff to blog either, though.
I never really liked playing football; watching's different, but I'm not too much of a fan anyway.
