Review BW059: Tornelos VS Voltolos VS Landlos! (Part 1)

Man, Ash, Iris, and Cilan got their shit wrecked in this ep. Makes me wonder how on earth Team Rocket thinks they can contain the demigod trio.

So why does the COTD even need that plant? For his sick Lilligant and Cottenee? The quality I saw the episode on was pretty shoddy, but the animation looked strong. {Anyone else really like how Hidden Power looks this gen by the way?} I liked how Ash had Snivy dodge by having her use Vine Whip on him. That was pretty clever.

Their total screentime in this episode was around 30 seconds, not including the flashbacks that were shown of them destroying the two shrines.

Which makes one wonder why they even bothered having those scenes in the previous episodes if they were just going to show them in this episode anyway. Why show the same scenes twice?

The tornado and lightning genie (sp?) battle was much better than the Darkrai and Cresselia scuffle back in DP if I may make that comparison. It reminded me of that "battle" but only much better.

Let's give props to the pokemon: Pikachu, Stunfisk, Snivy, Excadrill, Panage...for standing up to the genies, but getting slayed in the process...

BTW, did anyone notice that the green-gray haired dude looked almost exactly like Trip??

You know what would've instantly made the episode interesting? The moment I saw Pikachu flying on the back of Maggyo, I remembered a certain double battle against a few twins at a certain gym.
I was half-expecting to see "Lightning Armor" make a comeback in a situation that would almost made sense.

Other than that, seriously, Satoshi, maybe you can now see that evolving Pokemon might actually help.

Lastly, the CotD showed about as much emotion as Trip. Also, they look the same. There is clearly a connection.

Finally got to see the episode in good quality. I appreciated the effort that went into the battles, even if it was mainly just to pump up how supremely powerful the kami trio are. The combination attacks were pretty wicked. Poor Stunfisk got flattened.....well more flattened anyway. I liked how they animated Iris's hair when on the boat too. Weird thing to notice I know. Cilan and Pansage came off like real badasses going up against Tornadus all on his own.

I don't why people expect COTDs to be bouncing all over the place. So the guy wasn't particularly on Cilan's level of explosive joyousness. His job is pray for a fuckin plant to grow, he's allowed to be a bit introverted.

So I finally watched this ep right now and... it was ok... certainly not as good as most of the previous "serious" eps of Poké though... BW better focus on funny eps because it tends to work more than when they try the "serious" stuff...
It was nice that "super hero" guy from the previous ep got to appear in this - it's actually what I liked the most about this ep even if it was such a short scene XD
Hopefully I'll get to watching part 2 before next ep airs
