An episode of the hit Japanese anime series Pocket Monsters, entitled "Naetle vs. Naetle! Speed Battle!", marked the show's debut of the Pokemon Mojanbo (which, for reasons unknown, was showcased as a rare different-colored specimen, which is green instead of the usual blue). However, its scene caused controversy due to its sexual nature and was edited out of TV broadcasts all over Japan, causing the viewers to only see its vines for a few seconds. It is unknown if the scene, which the producers were inspired to make upon reading Vine Yard, an adult fan comic based off of their product, will be restored upon DVD release, but rumor has it that the Japanese government has confiscated the footage to prevent it from ever being seen by the public. Nintendo, Gamefreaks, Tomy, and TV Tokyo, in another attempt to keep such offensive imagery from displeasing their foreign consumers, have collaborated together in an agreement to ban the Pokemon from ever appearing in the show again and from ever having merchandise depicting it sold until it gets a proper redesign.

Aside from altering the phallic imagery shrouding its body, the barely visible region around its eyes, or its "face", is being changed from black to purple. When asked about this unusual change, Pocket Monsters-creator Satoshi Tajiri replied "We do not wish to offend anybody in neither our home markets and especially our foreign markets. We do not want to portray those with unusually large genitalia as being monsters with a hormonal drive large enough to constantly feel the need to rape random passerbys. Nor do we want to offend those of African descent... again... by associating them with jungle themes and large genitalia, even though the design's getting changed to remove that anyway. So you see, we make everybody happy, and everybody loves us, and everybody buys our stuff, and we get more money. More money! Lots and lots of MONEY!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!" Tajiri was unavailable for further questioning, although the interviewer did claim to have discovered him in his bedroom with a million-yen prostitute, cosplaying as a Mojanbo and the character Momi respectively. According to the interviewer, no further words were spoken after that.
