RP Everyone Cara Liss's notes - SUBJECT 604

SUBJECT 604
Dusktar.jpeg

Day One

Despite the novel challenges of amalgamating ghostly and corporeal forms, the ectoplasmic surgical equipment I recently acquired from Silph Co. made the process a cinch. Such exciting opportunities lie ahead with other specimens!

The subject is alive (well, unalive, I suppose) - all the unvital signs are present, but it has yet to stir from its post-process slumber. This is odd, considering I have never used anesthetic in any of the experiments thus far.

Day Four

The subject has still not responded to any form of external stimuli I can yet muster, from sound to smell to being prodded with a pointed Stick. Perhaps this one really is a dud?...

Day Five

Eureka! I have found the singular factor necessary to provoke a response from the subject - prey. When presented with a surplus creature from the stores, the specimen finally, slowly, opened its cyclopean eye and took to an almost sedentary hover on wispy legs. Once it had fixed its gaze on the unfortunate organism, I beheld a remarkable process - the victim decayed within seconds before my very eyes, crumbling into a fine grey dust.

This was not the end - with this stage of the feeding complete, the specimen inhaled not through its non-existent mouth but through the vents on its chest, sucking in great quantities of matter. The dust thoroughly ingested, it once again returned to a peaceful slumber. Fascinating!

Day Ten

The testing continues apace. It is said that repeating the same process over and over again and anticipating different results is a form of insanity. Fortunately, I am expecting the results to be much the same.

It seems to matter not the size or speed of the prey - all are transfixed and rendered unto delicious dust in under a minute once they have attracted the subject's attention. It has come in very useful for that one assistant who was wheedling and whining about a raise (I graciously offered 10%, but they were insistent that 10% of zero is still zero).

There is one, relatively minor inconvenience. The subject is not entirely efficient when ingesting the dust, and is prone to leaving small piles of the stuff lying about the pen (perhaps it is being selective? I suspect it has a preference for Dry flavours). Other parts of the lab are becoming covered in a thin layer of particulate, too; it is fortunate that there is a local Italian vacuuming company, which apparently boasts a specialism in ghostly material.

Day Sixteen

While it has been highly amusing to watch the subject desiccate and absorb large quantities of unwilling organic material, I must admit there is little further research value in simply recreating the situation ad infinitum (it is on the cusp of becoming rather boring, too, like tormenting a theme park mascot in Rollercoaster Tycoon).

Therefore, some sort of escalation of the study is required. It would be intriguing to see how the creature would react in a more open environment, where there is prey to be actively sought out; or perhaps it is an ambush predator? There is only one way to find out...
