Character Discussion Thread

Re: Professor Akuroma

I hope that book hes holding has something to do with the Original Dragon, as well as possibly the Abyssal Ruins and the ancient King.

Anyways, hes most likely an antagonist. They feature antagonist in the openings nowadays, plus that grey background seems foreboding.

Re: Revealed Gym Leaders Thread: Nay or Yay?

If Homika's going to be the first gym leader, then they better have a Psychic or Ground type available near her place. Muuna seems more likely.

They could also put a Sandshrew somewhere in there.

Or Ralts. I would love Ralts to be available early game. The possibilities for so many older Pokemon to make a return is awesome.

If they're going to add Ralts, then they might as well add Snorunt since both evolve via Dawn Stone from the opposite gender, and it'll be lacking if one of the two is absent in the regional dex. As for sandshrew, it depends if Homika's gym is next to the desert route.

Re: Professor Akuroma

The description line for Akuroma in the trailer reads "Foe? Friend? A mysterious character."
Putting that together with the word "Aku" having the meaning evil/wickedness....yeah, they couldn't telegraph this more if they were trying.
I've said this before. In what universe understand do the words "Mysterious" and "Hard to read" translate into definite villain. Does that mean that anyone who isn't an open book is the stuff of villainy? I have to hearken back to previous stalwart characters like Volkner, Bruno, and Professor Rowan. I don't think any of those characters come off as being the most friendly or welcoming, but villains they are not.

Although I'm aware Akuroma's name contains Aku (evil), dosen't Akuroma's name translate roughly into "gray" if I'm not mistaken? I don't think this guy is a villain, at least not in the way everyone else seems to billing him. The previous iterations of the series were named Black and White. They were named as such because they represent divided stances on a single issue, in this case truth versus ideal.

Gray, which is directly in between black and white, suggests a neutral stance on this issue; a moderate in other words. I predict that if anything Akuroma is going to be a morally ambiguous character. The kind of person that you're never 100% sure is a friend or foe. Perhaps even an anti-hero of sorts, something to contrast N's status an anti-villain. Pokemon Smash pretty much said as much with this little snippet, "Foe? Friend? A mysterious character.".

I do think is possible that Akuroma could be presented as an antagonist of sorts. If he is though, given the description we have of him, I predict that he'll be a villain in a different capacity than what we're used to seeing. Maybe someone along the lines of Fight Club's Tyler Durden. Either way I think it's way too soon pass any definite judgement.

Re: Professor Akuroma

Like everyone else, I too see Akuroma as a villain, he DOES have the same color scheme as Team Plasma, it's obvious he is involved in Team Plasma, but not as it's new leader to replace N and Ghetsis, but more rather, a high ranking member of the group, possibly the organizations second or third in command, with someone else (like Ghetsis) being the true mastermind behind everything.

Only question is: Is Akuroma's master really Ghetsis, or is it someone else, or is Ghetsis simply an admin of the organization, working for Team Plasma's TRUE leader, only time will tell...

Reminds me of Colosseum/XD's plotline in a way. To be honest though Ghetsis needs to stay as the final villain, hes too central and the sages held him in too high regard to be replaced.

They can mix things up a bit with various plot twist to keep his return a "secret" though. I also agree that Akuroma is probably a high ranking Admin or one of the head scientist of Plasma. Though even if he is, he'll likely still be somewhat of a "grey character" rather than an all out evil one. One of the things that made BW so deep was that it wasn't a simple Black/White story.

Re: Professor Akuroma

They already did a Man Behind The Man reveal with N and Ghetsis. I doubt they could do it again with Ghetsis and someone else.

I don't think Ghetsis should show up until the very end of the game, possibly for the event dealing with the Abyssal Ruins, Puzzle Cube, and original dragon. Assuming they haven't forgotten those things, of course.

Rematch with Homika: Give her Arbok.

Re: Revealed Gym Leaders Thread: Nay or Yay?

Why Arbok for her rematch team and not Muk or Crobat, who are better poison types?

Re: Revealed Gym Leaders Thread: Nay or Yay?

I...I may very well be in love with Homika. She's perfect. I even made a list why.

1. She is a Poison Type specialist.
2. She plays bass.
3. She has freckles.
4. She is left handed.
5. She has awesome hair.
6. Platform boots.
7. She has an intriguing, original fashion sense.
8. She has blue eyes.
9. Her theme colour (unsurprisingly) is purple. I like purple.
10. SCOLIPEDE BASS!!!

It's like GameFreak designed her specifically for me. I believe the majority of my art will now feature her.
I cannot wait for this game now.

Re: Professor Akuroma

I wonder if Ghetsis is using Akuroma to vet out the region because it's two years later, or because it's after the supposed "event" happened at East side Unova.

Re: Professor Akuroma

Watch Akuroma actually be named M Harmonia Gropius and was upset that N was chosen over him to "rule" the world and he has a daddy-complex with Ghetsis and wants to show him that he should have picked him to control the dragon...

Because I (or we) don't give a shit about being better or worse, lol

Arbok is a better looking Pokémon than both Muk and Crobat together.
Arbok is awesome. =]
