Clever Pokémon Nicknames

Also, Icarus the Talonflame
and Bastille the Gardevoir

Mostly because What Would You Do is too many characters to be a valid nickname, and Pompeii would be a better name for a Camerupt.

Edit:

Other cool names;
Calrissian the LANDOrus
Sunblock the Cresellia (my main wall on a defensive team utilizing sun)

I named my Jolteon Life Wire and I am quite proud of that

Cuz a live wire is a wire with electricity running trough it and this Jolteon is the medic for my Electric type team, so he's supposed to throw his team mates a lifeline if necessary

Yes
I find myself clever

Oogla-boogla, thread revivia!

After discovering this manga called "Tokyo Ghoul," I promptly caught a Venipede for my main Y team and called it "Kaneki."
Also used trivial Latin skills to come up with my Hawlucha's name, Surgite. (pronounced Surr-GI-teh) It means "surge!" or "charge!" Pretty fitting for an acrobatic Fighting-type, don't you think?

I once battled against someone who nicknamed his Mamoswine "Ray Romano." I thought that was pretty funny and clever.

I think one of my greatest moments in nicknaming was when I named my Talonflame Stravinsky, after the composer of the Firebird suite.

Doing a Nuzlocke in Heart Golda. Not very far in it.

I named my Cyndaquil Randall after the guy on YouTube who made the famous "Honey Badger" video, because apparently Typhlosion is a fiery honey badger of sorts....

My nicknames:

Foguinho: Torchic
Almofada: Mareep
Fofuchochu: Pikachu
Bonitinho: Marill
Alface: Leafeon
Espetado: Sandslash
Faísca: Minun

These I can remember.

Kamina, the shiny mega Gallade
Wait! That's an abusive word where I live, in our language...

My Names:
Charizard (Mega X): Flare
Raichu: Volt
Typhlosion: Blaze
Growlithe: StatueCircle (Name of the place where I captured it)
Gravellar: Rollozer
Greninja:Ninja

For some reason I kept naming all of those invisible Kecleon from R/S/E/OR/AS after characters from Street Fighter: Guile, Cammy, Ken, Ryu, Chun-Li, etc.

Also for some unknown reason I named some Pokemon after my friends. There's Kalan the Pumkaboo cause my friend Kalan's avatar on AIM was always a carved jack-o-lantern so why not a haunted jack-o-lantern, there's Negi the Togepi/Togetic/Togekiss cause I always called him "A good egg" and Togepi is an egg, there's Lucky the Psyduck/Golduck because my friend's main character in GuildWars 2 was Luckyjoker so he became Lucky the Plucky Ducky, I call my friend Erick "Crazyface" a lot and Electavire has the CRAZIEST face out of all the pokemon (in my opinion anyway) so that got nicknamed Crazyface, and I don't remember why I started calling my little brother Squiggy or why I decided Wooper reminded me of my brother but all Woopers I've ever acquired have gotten the nickname Squiggy.

I do remember nicknaming some Pokemon species out of frustration. Mime Jr kept being obnoxious in a way I can't remember when I was trying to catch it so I named it Obnoxious, and in LG's Pokemon Mansion all of the Koffing kept blowing themselves up before I could catch them, leading me to yell "WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY" so when I finally caught one that was its nickname. ^<__<^;;

Named Volcarona MothAsFlame as a play on "like a moth to flame," named my Aegislash Einlanzer like the holy dragon sword from Chrono Cross (which is probably more fitting for Doublade since being able to travel between the two worlds in Chrono Cross means you can get two Einlanzers), named Claydoll Mothership cause it kinda looks like the *Mothership summon from Chrono Cross.

My Pokémon White 2 Nuzlocke run has the following nicknames:

Baconator the Pignite
Salem the Purrloin
Dolan the Psyduck
Tesla the Magnemite
Camazotz the Zubat
Lemmiwinks the Rattata
Bastet the Skitty
Tupac the Scraggy
Spy the Patrat

I'm a big wrestling fan, especially of The New Day. When I got my Eevee in Pokemon Blue, I named it "Big Eevee."

I named my Espeon Psychee and I've been thinking about Fluree for my Glaceon. Been trying to play on the -ee ending of eevee when nicknaming Eeveelutions.

Well, I don't know if they could be called "clever" but I try to put at least a little thought into any name that isn't just some generic people name. Even then there's often some thought behind it.
  • Miles the Floatzel: It has two tails, Tails from the Sonic series has two tails and his real name is Miles
  • Rawk the Staraptor: This guy
  • Caliburn the Aegislash: This is the actual sword that Arthur pulled from the stone
  • Atem the Cofagrigus: Cofagrigus is a sarcophagus, sarcophagi are Egyptian, the Pharaoh in Yu-Gi-Oh's real name was Atem
  • Bunka the Forretress: it's intended as a corruption of "bunker" to tie into Forretress' high defenses
  • Rouge the Crobat: Rouge the Bat from the Sonic series, she used to hold flying gems back when they were available also.
  • Fiona the Clawitzer: Gee this one's convoluted. Originally I had intended to just call her Zoidberg and be done with it, then I thought that the name really didn't work for a female. The "Zoid" part of the name however got me thinking about the Zoids series. So I thought, "Who was that chick in Chaotic Century again?" The one I was thinking of was Moonbay, but I couldn't remember her name, so I just went for the other chick: Fiona. (told you it was convoluted)
  • Nimue the Gardevoir: The Lady of the Lake was named Nimue, and it just felt like a good fit for Gardevoir.
  • Galahad the Gallade: Galahad is simply my favourite Knight of the Round Table (mostly due to being played by Silver in Sonic and the Black Knight)
  • B-J the Pidgeot: B-J stands for Bird-Jesus. That is all.
  • Silver the Alakazam: Silver the hedgehog is a psychokinetic, Psychic is pretty much displayed a psychokinesis in the anime, I just connected the dots.
  • Marluxia the Scyther: Marluxia wields a scythe in the Kindom Hearts series
  • Gojira the Tyranitar: Tyranitar looks a lot like Godzilla, Gojira is the Japnese name for Godzilla
