The cleanup of Social Groups will continue. We are planning to delete Social Groups in the following order.

1. Inactive or Rulebreaking Groups.
2. Duplicate Groups.
3. Groups of which discussions are best suited for a forum section.
4. Locked Groups.

Groups that had no new posts before the year 2012 will be regarded Inactive.
Groups that have had many threads and members will be regarded as exceptions and not be deleted.

In case of duplicate Groups, we will keep the Group with the recent activity. The owner and the members of the deleted duplicate Group will be given a notice, which will include a reminder regarding the other Group.

As for the third condition, an example would be Groups solely devoted for pairing fictional characters, as Shipper’s Paradise is meant for such discussions and encourages threads discussing a particular Ship.
While we might request a Group’s owner to move their discussions to a subforum, we are expected to allow exceptions. For example, Fan Clubs for certain TV Shows that has high activity will be allowed to stay, given that they have no other issues.

Locked refers to Groups that have their contents not revealed to the public. To clarify, we are still allowing Moderated or Invite Only Groups.
Owner of Locked Groups must change the their Groups settings so that the discussion can be seen in public. Locked Groups that remain Locked will be deleted.
We may allow a locked group to remain under circumstances that the Group serves the policy of Bulbagarden and really needs to be on limited access. (Such as a Group used in preparation for a contest or judging entries.)

The cleanup will begin sometime within 24 hours. We will keep you informed of the progress in this thread. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here.

Cleanup of Inactive Groups has been finished. Groups with +30 members and/or +60 posts were not deleted.

We will start cleaning up duplicate Groups, and those with topics that suit an existing subforum. Before Groups are deleted, the owners and the members will be given an advanced notice. Thus this step is expected to take longer.

The social groups staff has started deleting threads considered obsolete or best suited for other areas of the forums. The owners will be notified when their group will be gone, and in case of duplicates, a message will be sent to the members of the group inviting them to the group that will remain.

If you have any question, feel free to contact @Kakuna Matata, @Froakie, @SummerRose or @Zenax.

Hey everyone, we're almost finished deleting Groups that fit the criteria. However, there's a change - regarding Shipping Clubs, those that have had high activity and/or lots of members, we chose to allow them to remain given that they had no other problems.

There still might be Groups that warrant deleting. Owners will always be notified of the deletion if it happens.

Currently, we're working on fixing categories' names. You might have noticed that some categories are already renamed - such as Pokemon clubs becoming 'Pokemon Games' instead. Also, along with Shipping Clubs, User Fan Clubs will also be sorted into new categories of their own.

After the categories are finished, we're expected to finish this 'reform'. Thanks for the cooperation!

This cleanup has been finally finished, and the rules for Social Groups is updated.

Just to clarify, the function to create new Groups was disabled during the cleanup. But now, users should have the ability to create Social Groups again. If you have problems seeing the menu after clicking 'Create Group', please contact me and I'll look into the issue.

However, like the updated rules say, please check if the Group you're about to create already exists, and it will be best to ask for an approval before making the Social Group, as this will assure that your Social Group does not have any problems by itself.

Thanks for the cooperation!

- Social Groups staff
