i am angered by how people blindly accuse pokemon of demonic, racist etc. things! okay for the show, i can understand the pyrogon episode, but the earthquake one? stupidity, so what it had earthquakes, oh didums! and how is jynx racist?? this is their view on jynx
picture.php
do you find it racist? no. what do you think on all of this?

I personally find it hilarious. Besides maybe offensive things like the earthquakes, Porygon and the mirrored manji, which when the image flipped for the English card looked like a Nazi swastika.

But stuff like it being Satanic, with it's "magical talismans" and such. And the Registeel hailing Hitler, and the "violence" like Misty's log...

You're calling it violent over someone being hit with a log? It's a show based around neon pets trying to knock each other unconcious in organized competetion

I was annoyed at first but these days I just shake it off because people will always pick on certain things and attempt to find flaws

This. I don't find anything in Pokemon satanic. And yeah, it was really stupid banning the move Earthquake. Porygon deserves better than appearing in the most famous banned Pokemon episode in history.

Yeah, eventually they do but most of the time fail at making any sense out of it. Like saying it's Satanic for promoting Evolution.

...

Yeah, in the form of INSTANT evolution, smarties. =D It's called "metamorphosis", and it actually exists.

It's easier for people to point fingers and yell then to use logic.

One thing confuses me about the Porygon-episode.
Or actually several:
First of: making a scene with flashing lights like that (and yes I saw that scene) is INSANE. What jerk thought that was a good idea? Its asking for trouble, honestly.
Second: Since that episode Porygon, Porygon-2 and Porygon-Z hasn't been seen in a single episode, despite the fact that it had nothing to do with the epilepsies, Pikachu did it.

One episode was deleted because Earthquakes since it was a pretty recent event, and the ones who've been through it were traumatized enough already...then again they deleted the Tentacool and Tentacruel from the American run after 911 because of the crushing buildings, but it was put back in a few years later, so maybe the Eartquake-episode will be run later too (but maybe not since it was banned BEFORE actually airing so I guess it can't be missed much... No one knows if its a good episode or not.)

Religious people love framing everything as either blasphemic or satanic, especially popular-children's shows, Like Harry Potter. (Until the last one. The Pope likes HP7..)
It becomes extra apparent that many of them haven't read/seen the show in question, and start complaining about random rumors they hear many of which aren't even true XD
I saw on TVtropes some guy accused Jigglypuff of being the Pokèmon-equivalent for breasts...which just makes me think "Mr... if you're afraid your kids are going to grow up as perverts I suggest you put them up for adoption, or they'll just learn it from you).

My friend and i did determine that Pokemon is the perfect Marxist society. Do note that the end stage of Marx's progression is not socialism or communism, but rather anarchism.

The conversation is in the spoiler:
Me: lol
Me: so pokemon has: 1) child labor
Me: 2) animal abuse
Me: 3) steroids
Me: 4) breaking and entering
Friend: how does it have child labor, other than letting 10-year-olds wander around battling with Pokemon?
Me: professor oak?
Me: you're doing a job for him
Friend: yeah, but you're researching
Me: but it's still better than us:
Me: they have national health care
Friend: it's a job, but it's like saying grad school is a "job"
Friend: plus, the people there are just absurdly Rousseauian.
Friend: I mean, you can send 10-year-old kids to wander around on their own and the worst they encounter are Team Rocket and maybe some ghost Pokemon?
Friend: no pedos? no murderers?
Me: lol
Friend: for a society that's based on battling, the people in Pokemon world have just really, really good intentions
Friend: maybe they get out all their rage through their Pokemon
Friend: what else were you going to say was good about Pokemon world?
Friend: just nationalized health care?
Friend: Pokemon is kind of like a perfect Marxist society
Me: I know!
Friend: they govern themselves
Friend: stuff like health care is guaranteed for everyone
Friend: and there's no class system
Friend: well, there is kind of a class system in terms of your ability to train and battle Pokemon, but that's a meritocracy - you can move up the ranks
Me: one flaw: there's a religion.
Friend: not quite. it's more like isolated spiritual beliefs in ghosts and shit, but not quite one organized religion.
Me: there's a god pokemon.
Friend: true
Friend: but the exact belief system doesn't appear to be set
Me: true
Friend: also, it's not quite the same as our religions because they have empirical evidence that this shit exists
Friend: they KNOW there are ghosts because there are ghost Pokemon
Friend: plus it doesn't serve the "opiate of the masses" role that Marx warned about religion.
Friend: it's not like it's used to keep people stupid and compliant. because there really isn't a commanding government for them to submit to.
Friend: Pokemon kind of shows the good side of that stuff. Spirituality isn't the problem - it's when leaders take advantage of that stuff, mold it into a belief system, and use it to control people.
Friend: WE SHOULD TOTALLY WRITE A PAPER ABOUT HOW POKEMON IS A PERFECT MARXIST SOCIETY.
Me: lol
Friend: we need to come up with a snappy title
Friend: that sounds really pompous
Me: A Study into a Utopian Society
Friend: it needs to be more pompous than that
Friend: "Is Kanto a Communist Utopia? A Marxist Analysis of the Pokemon Franchise"
Friend: yes
Friend: it's kind of interesting too
Friend: when you consider how much Pokemon has benefited from our capitalist free-market society
Me: -franchise
Me: +World
Friend: "Society of Pokemon"
Friend: this would actually be a really good senior thesis if I was studying something like, television or media studies
Me: i know
Friend: "Pokemon: Capitalist Cash Cow or Communist Utopian Vision? A Marxist Analysis of the Pokemon Games"
Friend: I think we've got it there
Me: lol
Friend: also, now suddenly the far-right's opposition to Pokemon makes a lot more sense
Me: lol

As my friend said, the opposition to Pokemon makes much more sense after reading our... dissection.

I find it funny how some parents keep their 10 year olds from watching Pokemon because it's "too violent", and yet those same parents turn around and let their kids watch R-rated horror movies.

Since I'm religious, I can kinda understand why some people don't like Pokemon... I dunno, it's hard to explain from my point of view. I'm not into the sorcery-stuff like Harry Potter and the demonic stuff like the vampire stuff (Twilight for example), and horror movies because of my religious beliefs.

But I don't honestly see what's wrong with Pokemon... sometimes I wonder if the majority of the people that don't like it are the stereotypical overprotective-soccer moms. For example, my mom had completely banned the franchise from our house because she thought it was "too violent" for us (if she thought that, she would've more than likely banned Teen Titans also, especially with the whole Slade stuff). Another mom I know has completely banned Cartoon Network from airing in their house, because of a "violent" scene that she saw from Totally Spies. But yet, my dad has absolutely no problem with Pokemon whatsoever....but that's mainly because he doesn't know much about it since my bro has no interest in it anymore, and being the 20 year old I am I generally keep to myself.

Don't get me wrong though... I might have sounded a little harsh with my mom there, but I still have great respect for her, and I wish she were still alive today.... she's helped me through so much horrible things that have happened 'n stuff like that.

Oh my. Now I can't see Pokemon the same ever again.

How is Jynx racist? Whether intended or not, it seems like a portrayal of blackface, which people do find offensive.

There was an incident in my University that sparked controversy over white people painting their skin black to go as the Jamaican bobsled team for Halloween. This was not out of hate or prejudice, the people who did it were fond of the team so they dressed up as them. Nonetheless, people did find it offensive which sparked controversy because people still find it offensive, even if it wasn't done to offend.

Well I guess there is a reason it's called "ignorance", because people can offend others without knowingly or intending to do so.

It's easier for people to point fingers and yell then to use logic.

Notice how scientists didn't raise a fuss over Pokemon giving children a completely wrong impression of what evolution really is :p

if porygon is being 'punished' over that episode, then boo. if its just coincidental, well, thats different.

i hate that jynx was changed. and seriously, japan shoulda been like 'Ay, Ay! not about black people. about theatre, you know? kabuki? guess what america? no one cares. chillax.'

though smoochum is adorable, and might not be as adorable, if they hadnt decided to change it. actually, i find jynx more offensive this way, than it used to be. deciding not to air an episode that was written, and animated months before some horrific event, dumb. put up a disclaimer, some thing like 'hey, just so you know, horrible earthquakes happen in this episode. if thats too soon for you, you might not wanna watch it.' or, whatever is appropriate for the situation.
the epilepsy episode? that was banned becasue it KILLED PEOPLE. very good reason to ban it. i mean, if you want to release it on dvd, with an epilepsy warning, or rework it so its not so insane, fine.

Dennō Senshi Porygon on Wikipedia said:
At this point, viewers started to complain of blurred vision, headaches, dizziness and nausea.[4][7] A few people even had seizures, blindness, convulsions and lost consciousness.[4] Japan's Fire Defense Agency reported that a total of 685 viewers, 310 boys and 375 girls, were taken to hospitals by ambulances.[4][8] Although many victims recovered during the ambulance trip, more than 150 of them were admitted to hospitals.[4][8] Two people remained hospitalized for over 2 weeks.[8] Some other people had seizures when parts of the scene were rebroadcast during news reports on the seizures.[7] Only a small fraction of the 685 children treated were diagnosed with photosensitive epilepsy.[9]

That's quite an epic death toll, isn't it?

I don't think it really killed people.. o_O It just caused seizures.

EVERYTHING IS OFFENSIVE

OMGGGG PIKACHU IS YELLOW
IT OFFENDS MEEEE

derp

I was truly offended by Game Freak's lack at making a Potato-based Pokémon, I mean, even a chip based Pokémon would have been fine. It's just, they have the sheer audacity not to honor the most amazing creation on this small, blue planet: the Potato. I mean, look at what the Potato has given up. Chips, Crisps, Potato Salad, Baked Potatos, Baked Potato with cheese. I mean, some might say, Potato's are better than God or Arceus themselves. I mean, who can resist the lovely round earthy feel of the potato's skin? And the soft, mushy inside, especially with melted cheese and, optionally, butter.

Anyway, jokes about Potatos aside, the usual controversy in Pokémon is "OMG SATANISM" or "OMG WITCHCRAFT" or "OMGJAMESISGAY" or something like that, I just laugh, because in the end it's just parents and careers looking way too deeply into the series, both Animé and Games. Sure, some Pokémon do look like they come straight outta' hell (Houndoom, might I say?), but, if idiotic parents would stop looking so deeply into the meaning of children shows, then we wouldn't have this problem.

Might I remind you people, the parents who complain about Pokémon being demonic and hellish and such, are probably the parents buying their 10-to-13 year old Son's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and then complaining about how graphic it is (even though the game is rated eighteen, not 7+ or something).

that was banned becasue it KILLED PEOPLE

No, it didn't. A few kids were sent to Hospital, but no one died. If someone did the Pokémon Animé would have most likely been canceled and several lawsuits would have been filed against it, and even if they didn't cancel it the shows ratings would go down so immensely they would have to pull it off the air.
Trust me, I'm a Media Student.

Let's be honest, Pokemon hasn't been controversial since the beginning of this decade. It's mostly politics - people like to get pissed at the "latest fad", and Pokemon has long since lost fad status.

Twilight, if I may?
