Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

I'm just glad we finally have a normal looking pokemon

But the fact that Pokemon look all weird is because that's the point! Your basically in another dimension where instead of the animals we know (cats, dog, goldfish) we have strange new animals, some look like the ones in the real world, but mostly are zany and creative-looking. Also, instead of being called animals, they're called Pokemon!

Their designs are nothing alike except the similar poses.

So wait, what's your issue with the Pidgeon art, if you don't mind similar pose?

That's the point. Neither are Honchkrow's and Mamepato's.

Um I said their poses looked the same, but Mamepato's and Starly's designs looked the same to me.

The similar design of Starly and it.

Okay, now I'm really confused.

Okay Ryuu I think that this

and
10qdi6a.png
that are pretty much the same to me, except the face of course.

I just thought the it having the same pose with Honchkrow was funny.

And I was referring to your comparing it to Honchkrow based on pose. Don't conflate your arguments.

But while we're at it: with a side-by-side comparison, just what exactly about these two is similar? 'Cause I honestly can't see anything.

Hihidaruma is insane. I love it. My favorite Poke.
YAY! I'm glad I wasn't the only one who watched that show! I think I like that thing a little more now...although that's still not very much. :-/

I don't believe that they are very similar, but the wings do bend at the end in both pictures.

Their colours might be a bit similar, but aside from the grays and whites, I see no resemblance. Mamepato is a pidgeon, Starly is a starling. They're not the same.

What is a starling?

They changed the colors, the beak, and the shape on the chest. If you look back the other birds don't really do that at all.

I said in design they do, not their species and I think their designs are the same.

Starling

Look, all birds look pretty similar, especially if we're talking very common, small "Good for 1st route" birds.

I, personally, was hoping for a roadrunner or a bald Eagle. But hey. Maybe we'll still get them, just not as the 1st route bird.

I like the pigeon. It makes sense to have one, they are very very common and very Urban.

They also changed the tails, the head feathers, the eyes and the feet.

So...what exactly is the same?

C'mon, it's way more than that. The wing pattern is entirely diferent, as it the face and the feet. As for the chest: look at every other basic bird. They all have chest decoration, and in Mamepato's case, it actually serves a purpose in the heart theme of the Pokémon.

The only possible similarity is in the tails, and that's only because we can't see Mamepato's yet.

They also changed the tuft of 'hair' on its head, removed the frill on its neck, changed its feet, removed its tail almost completely, shortened its beak, changed its eye color and made it smaller. The only similarity is the color scheme in that they both use some form of gray and white as their main colors.

I predict Mamepato's final form will be a Flying/Poison type.

There's a lot more differences between the two than just the colours, beak, and chest shape.

Starly's feet don't have claws, mamepato's do. Starly has a little curl on it's head, Mamepato has feathery "spikes" on it's head. Starly has a pattern on it's face and feathers around it's neck, mamepato doesn't. just because their colours are similiar does not mean they have the same design. people said the same thing about Mijumaru and piplup when the starters were revealed.

@[email protected] I pointed out in my post why i think they look the same. I don't care if you think it's original, I think it's a copy of Starly and I'm gonna continue thinking that. I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion about this bird, I'm just trying to share mine...but apparently if you have a negative opinion on the 5th gen in this forum, you need to explain your opinion in perfect detail. lol please find something else to pick on.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

Also, does anyone else think Mamepato's intended as a dove rather than a pigeon? "Hato"refers to both pigeons and doves (they're in the same family), and I don't know about you guys, but around where I live we always call birds that look like Mamepato does "doves". The association of doves with peace and the apparent heart theme it has also make me think that's the direction they were heading.

So there it goes your original argument. And please, we're not blind to agree that the two Pokémon are completely different from each other.
