So there it goes your original argument. And please, we're not blind to agree that the two Pokémon are completely different from each other.

My argument was and still is that the two Pokemon look the same and I don't have to explain my opinion on the Pokemon in detail to you it's my opinion and the way I see it. I've told you why I see it that way, and you don't and I understand and don't care. And yes people who have negative opinions in these threads do get treated poorly. I'm a mod, I see the reports this section gets :)

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

@[email protected] I pointed out in my post why i think they look the same. I don't care if you think it's original, I think it's a copy of Starly and I'm gonna continue thinking that. I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion about this bird, I'm just trying to share mine...but apparently if you have a negative opinion on the 5th gen in this forum, you need to explain your opinion in perfect detail. lol please find something else to pick on.

At first glance, they did look the same to me. But after looking it over, it seems there are so many distinguishing features that it couldn't have been inspired by Starly. Mamepato still looks like a 5th generation Starly, but like Piplup and Mijumaru that'll soon wear off. I respect your opinion, and I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions before reading your original post.

Listen. I think the real problem is the sameness with the birds. You can only redesign the same Normal/Flying pokemon so many times until people get bored of it. Are you people saying you wanted another Normal/Flying bird in the opening route instead of a different type combination? I personally like the new Pigeon, but its really not what I wanted and would still prefer them to change it up a little bit. About the posing, birds only have so many poses, but I do agree they COULD have made the pose look a little different. But the fact is thats what birds look like when they are standing around. How about have it with both wings spread, kind of on one leg, with its mouth open? Different poses are possible. But that doesn't change the fact that its the same idea from previous generations. I would have liked a grass/flying pokemon in the opening route instead.

What do ya'll think? Wouldn't ya'll have prefered an opening route bird that wasn't a Normal/Flying and didn't look very similar to a Starly? They are based on different birds and have different characteristics, but they do look similar. I hope the pigeons evolution will branch away from the "norm" for past bird pokemon.

I was hoping for a Pure flying tye, which has never been done before. In fact, to this day flying is the only type that doesn't have a pure pokemon with just flying.

With the move roost, it's impossible to see a pure flying pokemon

Oh, I just looked that up, I didn't know that it lost it's flying type,oh well, that kinda sucks, so I guess there will never be a pure flying type Pokemon.

Actually, GF could just make the pure flying type unable to learn Roost. Or they could alter the move so that Roost changed the Flying type to Normal instead of getting rid of it.

I know this is from a long way back, but I believe Chiramii's # is 75, 'cause you can definitely see a 7, and the other one looks like a 5.

Also, get this, Tsutarja's pokedex entry was next to Chiramii's, so someone was able to translate it, and here's what it says: "It is smart and has a very cool demeanor. It's movements sharpen when it basks in plenty of sunlight." TOTALLY WICKED!!!

P.S. Does anyone know how to zoom farther in on the scans?

You can save it as a picture document, then keep expanding the size of the picture on PAINT. The best I could see, it was 70 or 76

Oh, thanks. I wish I had the actual magazine.

It's not what I wanted either.

But all in all, it's not bad. It's a bit clever. If you do ultimately force yourself to work in an environment where you set boundaries and goals (in this game, designing a Normal/Flying early route bird Pokemon), then you actually get really driven and focused to make cool stuff. Case in point, Mamepato. A pidgeon Pokemon fits the necessary characteristics quite well. There's more to him than just "oh I'm a pidgeon with Wing Attack and Featherdance".

Sure, I'd love to see crazy, exotic bird Pokemon, like peacocks and toucans and cardinals and bluejays and turkeys and albatrosses and hummingbirds with a rainbow of Type combinations. But at the same time I can grasp why they may not want to push such exuberant Pokemon towards the forefront -- sometimes it pays to have surprises.

As for the poses, they come with the territory. If you didn't have a bird sitting like it does, you might have trouble believing it's a bird. And heck, isn't Mamepato lifting its wing to give you a friendly wave? That's pretty damn different.

Of course, no one gives Chiramii flack for having the same horrifying black soulless eyes of the damned that all those cute n' cuddly Pokemon get.

Well, I can't say I'm too happy, but this is something big. Here's my critique that I'm sure will have some followers:

Chiramii - Not bad! Kinda cute for the Normal-Type! Reminds me a bit of Ratatta!

Munna - WTF? A pink rollie-pollie with flower pedals on its butt? This thing better evolve into something good! X(

Giaru - Many say it's too weird, but I kinda like it. I agree it's weird, but it's similar to Magnemite. I hope it evolves into something good, though...

Mamepato - Not bad! A must-have Flying-Type in the team!

Hihidaruma - Another Fire Mokey? Then again it looks more like a Gorilla. It'll grow onto me...

Shimama - An Electric Ponyta! Please let it evolve into a stallion too! XD

Meguroko - Crocky! A Ground/Dark-Type! Has no one thought of it!? I'm definately getting that one! XD

Reshiram - Looks kinda good! Not a fan of the tail, though...

Zekrom - A bit too robotic, don'tcha think? I gotta see it in the anime first before I can truly appreciate it...

If it makes you feel better, I thought the exact same thing on first glance too. I still do.

I'm still hoping for an Electric/Flying-type flying squirrel evo for Pachirisu.

Actually the resemblance between the Pigeon and Starly are the biggest out of all the current Pokemon, and it maintains the same colour as the previous, so I agree with you on that.

Of course, that doesn't contradict my previous point that this generation has Pokemon as different from previous ones as Gen III had to its predecessors since its just one pigeon.

I really am surprised that people are way more accepting this time around. Its either the fandom grew up or people went on a rampage for the soul reason of not having backwards compatibility, in which case *facepalm*

What I find even more hilarious is that people were willing to compare Garchomp as a Sharpedo copy because it was a shark, and had the same colouration as its Carvanha. Right now the bird has a generic bird shape (disregarding any other features) and has some Starly colours, and people defend it so quickly as if there weren't any similarities.

There is some similarities people, get over it. It's not a carbon copy, but the point remains that there are similarities.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

So far they released:

The movie pokemon: Zoroark/Zorua
Then the 3 starters
Then the 2 cover legendarys
Now pokemon catchable in the wild

Now we have a pretty good idea of what this generation is going to end up being like. Personally, I think we already almost have more good Gen 5 pokemon, then in all of Gen 3(i don't hate gen 3). I think this generation might end up being the best BEHIND the first gen. I really like these designs alot. I'm looking forward to seeing the evolutions of these pokemon as well as the new pseudolegenary(s), maybe in the next issue??? But we have a while til that comes out, we're still waiting on this months issue officially
