You know I wonder what they are gonna give Mamaepato as an English because we already have an English name similar in name to a pigeon and that is Pidgey. So is anyone else wondering what the heck they are going to call it.

Pidgey2 ala porygon2...I'm curious to see what his evolutionary line will be. I'm hoping for a falcon as they sometimes roost on skyscrapers, but that may even further push the pidgey thing.

There's a species of pigeon/dove called "bleeding heart dove". If this new bird has a heart theme his evo may come from that.

Yes, that's a marking, not a wound.

Well we've had Ekans, Arbok and Seviper for snakes. (Albeit they are different species of snake.)

And there's been Tentacool & Tentacruel for Jellyfish.

So it looks like it could go either way, (if we can base it on these examples) - completely different (snake example) or similar (jellyfish).

But what do I know, I'm just having a shot in the dark. :p
I hope it isn't too similar to Pidgey though, cos it's already been branded a Starly clone, the last thing it needs is to be a Pidgey name clone... :/

But Mamepeto and Starly look NOTHING alike besides the color... And the fact that they are the generic fist route Bird pokemon.

Besides Starly is a Starling and Mamepeto is a pidgeon... two different birds... and Pidgey isn't a pidgeon is it? Who knows we'll see yhe English names soon enough... I just want to know the Starter evo's

I never said they did look alike. I was saying it's been branded a Starly clone, but personally I don't think it is. The last thing it needs is a similar name to Pidgey to get all the haters complaining about it looking like Starly and having a name like Pidgey. And then it will end up "THEY'RE RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS". And that's just getting annoying.

Will we see the starters evos before release in a future Corocoro? Or do they leave them till people evolve them in-game?

I honestly don't see why people get worked up over what's original or a copied, already-used design... just play the flippin' games and enjoy them for what they are.... good gawd... *walks away to get an ice pack*:dizzy:

Just to throw in my own opinion about the damn bird, I was right on the money when I guessed that it was based off of a pigeon before I seen the initial details on it. And I think it looks cute, but I still think the chinchilla is the most adorable out of all of them... and I call dibs on the zebra and the crocodile.

Personally, I think we already almost have more good Gen 5 pokemon, then in all of Gen 3(i don't hate gen 3). I think this generation might end up being the best BEHIND the first gen.

I personally dislike Gen 1. I think Hoenn and Sinnoh have better Pokemon than Gen 1. And this generation looks like it may have the coolest Pokemon of all five generations (in my opinion).

*I saw* (My apologies.)

And good luck calling dibs over the millions of other fans that like the zebra and sandcroc. =P

THANK YOU.

It really irritates me to see some people worshiping the Gen I Pokemon while putting down anything that they don't have nostalgia of.

Yeah! To me, gen 1 seems to be the most bland. It was the first game I played, and I feel no emotional attachment to the first 150 Pokemon. I barely like any of them... They don't seem too original to me. Seel. Great name, GameFreak. It's a seal. I had no clue! Same with Dewgong, Goldeen, etc.

I think the only Pokemon I like in gen 1 is Sandshrew. Maybe a few others. =P

Well, if they keep the Gear Pokemon's name as 'Gear' then its not really original now is it? But I do agree that generation I wasn't that original either. Magnemite -> Magneton (1 magnet -> 3 magnets) and Diglett -> Dugtrio (1 mole? -> 3 moles?).

I think it's unavoidable for later generations to have similar designs when compared to previous ones. They do have the same artistic style, after all.

According to Pokebeach about Corocoro, Zoroark and Zorua are primarily event Pokemon, meaning they won't appear in Black or White through normal means. Well that sort of sucks.... Though they may appear in an egg or something hopefully.
Also there is a weather indicator that tells you if it's Raining or Snowing and such, meaning that Weather might be a bigger factor then previous games.

I could say 'if' to a lot of things. Just because it's romanized name is Gear doesn't mean it's set in stone. Seel, on the other hand, has a set name. Not much of a comparison. If =/= Is.

That pisses me off...I mean, I'm not particularly fond of them anyway, but it's still annoying.

I did just say if, and I did agree that Seel was not original at all. Don't know if you're trying to prove a point, because there wasn't one.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

PokeBeach said:
Now this is quite interesting. Was Munma referenced in the first generation games? After you defeat a Lass outside of Rock Tunnel in Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, and their remakes, she tells you...

"The POKEMON here are so chunky! There should be a pink one with a floral pattern!"

Quite the random description, with no Pokemon since now ever fitting it. There has been a rumor circulating on the Internet for years and years that Gamefreak originally created more than 1,000 Pokemon designs, and while we know that some Pokemon were delayed a generation (like Shellos and Gastrodon, originally for Ruby and Sapphire), who would think that after almost 15 years they would actually use a concept from that far back? Was Mun'ma a rough idea that long ago or even a near-complete design? Seems like Gamefreak is really scraping the barrel if that's the case. Regardless, it's astounding that Red and Green from 1996 now reference a Pokemon from 2010. Thanks go to Zierant from our forums for notifying us of this.

By the way, did anyone read this article on PokeBeach about Munma? The one about how it may have been referenced in Generation I? It seems to me that it may have been designed beforehand and then perfected, or it could have just been there and a GameFreak designer decided to go along with it.

~ Goes off searching for mystery Pokemon clues in games prior to Generation V.

The only reason I brought that up was because of this: "then its not really original now is it?" I took that as you thinking I said the 14 Gen V Pokemon were all original. I never said Gear was original in design (or name, if it keeps Gear), did I? Perhaps I took this sentence the wrong way.

I think Gen 3 was my favorite as well. I sure do miss the Hoenn region and its Pokemon. However, Isshu and Gen V Pokemon may be my new favorite. ^__^
