Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

The only reason I brought that up was because of this: "then its not really original now is it?" I took that as you thinking I said the 14 Gen V Pokemon were all original. I never said Gear was original in design (or name, if it keeps Gear), did I? Perhaps I took this sentence the wrong way.

I think Gen 3 was my favorite as well. I sure do miss the Hoenn region and its Pokemon. However, Isshu and Gen V Pokemon may be my new favorite. ^__^

Oops, I might have mixed your post with somebody else's post. My bad.

And although I liked the 3rd generation anime, I dislike the Generation 3 games. I don't know why, maybe it was during the period that I was away from Pokemon. Or maybe it's just Brendan's white hair/white bandana-hat and the fact that none of the Pokemon from previous regions were there. It just didn't stick with me.

~ Too bad PokeSunday didn't reveal any new information, except maybe 'Night Burst'. A DARK move that lowers accuracy? Awesome!

You're fine. ^__^ I've done that before.

I think I liked Ruby/Sapphire more because of what you just said: Pokemon from previous regions weren't there. I got tired of Kanto. Gen I and II had Kanto and its Pokemon. It was nice to see R/S/E go away from Gen I and even II. I loved the 'exotic' feel, the brand new feel to the games. Even the double battles, contests, abilities, and new environments excited me. The trick house, sandstorm, and volcanic ash were all memorable things about Hoenn as well. Searching for Feebas in the river near Fortree. Fortree itself. Secret bases, heavy rain. Diving. Even the evil teams were something new, something different than Team Rocket. I really, really hope that they remake Ruby/Sapphire. Hoenn's the only region not to get the "overhaul" look like the other three did in Gen IV. I wanna see 3Dish Hoenn in all its glory. =]

Serebii's post with all the new Pokemon had Night Burst in the info about Zoroark. The name wasn't new, but the accuracy reduction certainly is. And it being a move of the Dark type was pretty much known, given the name it has. =P

I could say 'if' to a lot of things. Just because it's romanized name is Gear doesn't mean it's set in stone. Seel, on the other hand, has a set name. Not much of a comparison. If =/= Is.

We actually don't even know what its Romanized name will look like. In fact, "giaru" is not how "gear" is usually transliterated into Japanese, so "Gear" probably won't be the official Romanization.

Even better! I don't want it to be just plain Gear. I just see all these people calling it Gear because apparently someone said it is "Gear" after romanization. I mean, it makes sense, considering... it's a gear. =P

You know I wonder what they are gonna give Mamaepato as an English because we already have an English name similar in name to a pigeon and that is Pidgey. So is anyone else wondering what the heck they are going to call it.
Take a word describing how fat it is, like the word "bulge", and mix that with the word "pigeon"

Bulge + Pigeon = Bulgeon

Okay that sucks. But! I have a feeling they may use the "-geon" phonic this time around.

Well, if they keep the Gear Pokemon's name as 'Gear' then its not really original now is it? But I do agree that generation I wasn't that original either. Magnemite -> Magneton (1 magnet -> 3 magnets) and Diglett -> Dugtrio (1 mole? -> 3 moles?).

I think it's unavoidable for later generations to have similar designs when compared to previous ones. They do have the same artistic style, after all.

How can the original generation NOT be that original? If you don't like the designs and think they are too simple or not well thought out that is one thing, but they ARE original.

It's not fat, it just has a puffed-out chest, like a real pigeon.

that's exactly how i feel. it was the first game that really felt "new" or "exciting" or "exotic" to me. i loved how things were different than previous games. in all serious, kanto was my least favorite

Magnemite's .jp name is/was "Coil". Somehow, I think that Gear will have a different English name.

ANYWAY, the new Dex design is sleek (reminds me of the Vs. Recorder), I like the new Prof.'s design, we got a look at what's probably a new Bug-type gym, and the new Pokémon are overall pretty decent. Particularly, I'm a fan of Chiramii at this point (Chinchillas make everything better). But I've gotta say, Zekrom and Reshiram's designs make me think that their typing would be the other way around (though that's my subconscious associating colors for me).

There's my input.

They are THE original, but that doesn't mean that they are original when it comes to design.

Please explain? Who did they copy? If they aren't "original", that means they copied somebody else who was original since they weren't "original when it comes to design(s)", right?

Seriously, no animosity intended. I'm just curious.

It's horribly fat. It needs Jenny Craig for Pokemon.

Put down the fork, Mamepato! Just put down the fork!

well, to me, they seem the most "animal" like. like look at tauros. he looks just like a real life bull, albeit with an extra tail or 2. and buterfree. there's almost no change there except the size. beedrill looks just like a wasp, only that it has drill hands. ekans and arbok are just snakes. even their names admit this!

They copied the previous evolution. Adding two more Magnemites or two more Digletts isn't original in design, as they are just multiplying a preexisting one by three.

Haha, well ekans is the "snake pokemon" according to it's pokedex entry. Most pokemon are based off of animals or objects, its what pokemon are! The kind of animals that exist in nature in an alternate universe. In our universe, Michael Vick is Ash, and his dogs are the pokemon!

Hope the next corocoro comes with starter evos

I think that Gear will have a different English name.
Most likely will. To the moonpeople, English names are cool and edgy no matter how basic the words are.

See: Fire, Freezer, Thunder.
And heaven help you if you confuse Thunder with Thunders.
Two totally different mons, man.

I think you're mixing terms. The word you're looking for is 'creative', not 'original'.
