Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: August 2010)

I wonder if people are treating the fact that I'm(or people in general) actually questioning whether or not 'this is Pokemon' as a bad thing, because I don't see what's so bad about it, they're changing stuff up and I think that's good, plus Freedom of Speech, etc. And I'm sure they meant we should be questioning that in regards to the games themselves, not just the Pokemon.

Well, in general, the "Pokemon look like Digimon" is usually an abstract way of saying "I hate it!".

Can't see why. I use it as a compliment. People must have crazy tastes if they think Digimon look bad compared to Pokemon. Over the 1,000 Digimon there are, over 90% of them look absolutely epic. But I don't want to go off topic. To be honest I love all the new changes.

New scans on the way, I just saw some on Pokejungle. You can see part of the in-game map and I think it talks about triple battles.

You guys realize these comparison to other monster franchises happen every generation and they added a whole new crew of artists apparently, so yes, this is Pokemon. There's nothing that different >_>

They've done everything they usually do, the only thing different is a design shift due to new staff. Nothing to be amazed over. They just tried to avoid the same Gen III backlash by hyping it up as something special.

Also lol at female childhood friend having been revealed as the girl in that picture with the male Protagonist and Cheren, and being ignored.

I will not question their innovations. They've done a good job so far, even doing things that admittedly we have not seen in Pokemon before. I said it best when the animations were revealed. Yes, this is pokemon, but it's never done this before. My point was that improvements should be expected, and it's rare that Misty agrees with me.

I appreciate your fresh killjoy but I think I'll stick with my opinion, 'kay?

How is she ignored? Didn't they have a section of text by her like all the other characters revealed?

Yeah, I don't feel any of the Pokemon shown so far are that outlandish. Even Rancorous which people made a huge deal out because it was "complex" has a pretty simply symmetrical design.

Oh, and I like Digimon as well (although I feel they lack the individuality and staying power of each Pokemon, in a way, since many appear sporadically or are just recolors) but I don't think people want to see Pokemon become as complex as them.

Agreed, although I do like the idea of every stage of Pokemon having an awesome design rather than their evolutions only, or vice-versa.

^ That's another Misty, not staff Misty. :p

I like what I've seen on these new scans. But especially the Cheren, Beru and N, plus the Eagle Pokemon.

This new "passing by" feature (details at pokebeach) sounds suspiciously like the tag mode function of the 3DS. Coincidence? I think not!

Tons of DS games already have a similar feature. :p

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: August 2010)

Somehow, after looking at Wooguru, I get a Digimon-vibe, too (It looks like Hawkmon/Aquillamon?). But after looking it over, they look nothing alike.

I think that it's just an initial reaction to compare Pokemon to the next best -mon. After a while, though, the designs will grow on you. When the entire batch of Pokemon are released, the Pokemon will actually look complete and Pokemon-esque. I know when I first came back to Pokemon (back from Generation II), I thought that Generations III and IV looked perfect, because they both had that distinguished style.

Yeah, but so close to the release of the 3DS? I think that the 3rd version will take the passing by feature and make it a tag mode function.

The TV thing is just a gimmick I'd never use. Good thing I decided not to get a DSi for whatever DSi exclusive feature we were to be given.

Looks like triple battles are kind of like Final Fantasy with a back-row/front-row.

Okay? Like I care if people like Game Freak are the gods of innovation when their promise of us thinking "Is this Pokemon" extends just exactly to what I thought: it's designs due to new staff. Something that happens every year, and we're supposed to froth at the mouth at their innovation.

Because you know, a massive change in design hasn't been attempted before. Oh wait. The design change from their current design style for Gen III/IV to Gen V is just as different as Gen I/II to gen III. The difference this time is people are buying this "innovation" crap rather than just going "ruined forever"

>_>

Ignored, as in, when we got that video that originally showed Cheren and people got stills, there was a third character. People thought she was a Pokemon for some reason. She was ignored by the fandom at that time while we debated on whether or not Cheren is a trap.

She's been revealed ages ago, just nameless.

Yeah, I initially didn't think them that interesting, but now I'm curious.

I wonder, these new scans, and the one pic of N with the matrix-y background, I wonder if they're from the supplement provided in this issue? They look different than the rest of the scans.

So, the effects of attacks depend on the pokemon's position in the line-up?

This is interesting...
