Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

But the golden gate is in my state...California....not New York. And, although it was within the time frame I mentioned, there is really no connection between it and New York besides that there are big bridges in New York (-_-)
I know that.

But don't be dense. Make the connection. San Fran -> Cali -> USA

What other bridges could he be looking at in the U.S., hmm?

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

First of all, I got the connection you were trying to point out, V. I just decided to ignore it and repost my earlier challenge.

Second, I'm truly not sure if we are truly the biggest buyer of Pokemon products when Japan is the center of the Pokemon craze as of now. We in America do not have Game Freak telling us everything before Japan. We in America have to translate it from Japanese to English. Reshiram and Zekrom was the first ever international release of names. Perhaps this means that we people from outside Japan will be getting news faster?

Oh, and pidgeons generally have the "heart" thing as it's not really a "heart" and more a thing for determining age of the bird

Edit: Gah, I'm getting tired. Can we continue the debate over location tomorrow? If we don't stop then everyone is going to believe it's NYC and later find out it's not.

I would hope we might finally get some info sooner rather than having to translate over. That would be badass.

I was referring more to the heart on its chest. It's very stylized to look like a heart, and real pigeons don't have that. I think it's very intentional as most of these new pokemon look like they were going for the "cute" appeal... blah..

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

Mexico City is the biggest city in the world.

Anyway it looks too much like NYC to just dismiss it and using an arguement like they distorted the shape of a Japan region and it came out looking like Manhattan is just grasping at straws.

No, it is not. If people are going to state what city is the largest in the world, they should do some research.

In terms of agglomerations, here is a page on it. Tokyo wins.

In terms of metropolitan areas, look here. Tokyo wins.

In terms of the actual city itself, and not the surrounding area, look here. Shanghai wins. (By 1,016 people. xD Very small margin.)

Sorry to go off topic, but I felt some information should be provided so everyone can see what the largest cities/metropolitan areas are and not just claim some city is because they think it is.

And that's why Tokyo is represented by Saffron, Celadon, Cerulean, Lavender and Vermillion cities.

And since Tokyo take's up at least half a region, why would New York get an entire region to itself?

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

This afternoon we were contacted by a man named Martijn Müller, the webmaster of an old and famous Zelda website. He claimed to have insider information on Black and White, and after spending a few hours verifying he was who he claimed to be, we decided to indulge and see what he had to say. Granted, we often get a lot of people claiming to know insider information on Pokemon games, with some going to extreme lengths to fool us. However, he has revealed insider information to gaming communities before, which leads us to believe he is telling the truth. He also personally showed me some developer material from Black and White, which further cemented to me that he was telling the truth. Nevertheless, this information could be one highly elaborate scheme (it wouldn't be the first time), so for now, please just take all of it with a grain of salt - it's not confirmed and could be fake. As a fan site it is our duty to post rumors when we have gone to reasonable lengths to verify the sources, which is why we decided to post this. Remember, grain of salt!

* There will be 157 new Pokemon, bringing the total amount to 650.
* Like how Giratina compliments Dialga and Palkia, a large, green cobra will accompany Reshiram and Zekrom.
* Tauros will have an evolution: Minotauros. It stands on two legs.
* In previous games, either through moves or through abilities, players were able to alter the weather conditions of the battle field to boost certain types. For example, Groudon's Drought summons sunlight, which boosts Fire-type moves by 50%. In Black and White, players will be able to collect certain items that alter the weather conditions of the battle field. Approximately twenty of these items will affect the weather conditions so that they will boost certain types (kind of like Stadium cards in the TCG?), with some types getting added bonuses depending on the item. As a side note, in today's CoroCoro scans, there was a screenshot showing a new weather indicator (we overlooked it), which could give credence to this claim.
* One example will be setting up a Poison Field, which causes all Poison-type attacks to gain 30% accuracy, Sludge Bomb to have a 100% poison rate, and the effects of Toxic Spikes' poison to have an immediate effect.
* Black and white, good versus evil, and yin and yang are going to play a major part in the plot. However, unlike previous Pokemon games, the decisions and choices you make will "influence" the plot of the game. If you make "good" choices, you might get certain help or items, whereas "bad" choices could have negative effects. The point is that the plot will not be as cut-and-dry as previous games, changing depending on the player's actions.
* Tsutaaja, Pokabu, and Mijumaru had rough designs over this past year or so, but in the last few months received major overhauls, becoming the final designs we see today.

I dearly hope this is true.

Perhaps he was talking about the golden gate bridge because they could have been considering using California? *grasping at straws*

I don't think you should just dismiss the theory that it could be based on NYC, especially after this:

Here's Isshu

and here's the map from GTA4(based on NY)

View attachment 14742

They look almost identical

Holy crap.

They really do look identical. Right down to where the bridges are placed too.

Well if you have evidence to suggest otherwise, like a link or a blog post (in the same vein as I provided), then you're welcome to post it.

I'll be frank... My belief is Game Freak chooses what interests them or what constitutes as a good idea.

I'm crossing my fingers. The generation that introduced the largest amount of Pokemon, even surpassing Kanto/Gen I. =]

If we get 157, that opens a lot of room for A) evolutions/prevos and (more importantly) B) new species! A lot of new species.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

My evidence is circumstantial at best, V, just like the evidence for NYC being the regions base. My only proof is proof from past games and how Tokyo is represented by five cities in the Pokemon world. We have two very possible places as to where the region may be based just by shape alone: North Honshu and New York. The placement of tips of three islands/peninsulas like that is not all too common.

I really hope it is New York City because it'll be interesting to see how they interpret "American culture."

Haha true, as much as stereotypes get screwed up you never know how they might portray us. Well the short cut-off shorts of the girl could fit this idea I guess

You don't need proof... just a convincing argument. So far, I am personally not attached to any idea, but the idea of the region being based off of New York (not just the city, but the surrounding areas as well) is a very compeling one. But there's also a lot of content we've seen in game that could be represented by any number of large metropolitan cities based on screenshots and video (like N. Honshu, as you pointed).

As I said before, if you want to dig through the old blogs of developers, go right ahead.

Being based around the geography doesn't necessarily translate into adoption of the 'culture' either.

If you have a link to some blogs, I'll sift through them tomorrow and report my findings before Pokemon Sunday starts.

My summary:

I still vote that its Manhattan...just because...well, look at it. its perfect, right down to liberty island.

As for the rumors, i hope we do get 157 new pokes, and a changeable storyline with choices....but the other rumors...Those kind of turn me off...

It doesn't always, but I don't see why not either. Didn't Johto adopt some of its real-life counterpart's rustic attributes?

Well Johto had Goldenrod City and Ecruteak city and they kept some major cultural themes.

But what I meant was is that it will still feel very "Japanese-ish". The characters that they decide to actually populate the world with will still stem from what the creators are familiar with and have been accustomed to.

For instance, tons of characters will still have different color hair, look cartoonish, and have certain qualities. I don't believe we're looking at an entire region filled with Lt. Surge's, Fantina's, and Dahlia's. That, truth be told, frightens me.

Hmm, a morality system? Seems Game Freak has been taking notes from WRPG developers like Bethesda and Bioware. I'm not too excited about such a system since it always seems a bit iffy to me, but it instantly adds a lot of replayability to the games in terms of single player mode.

Also, I notice there's no mention of the badges being removed or reduced rumor. I guess that means its either a mistranslation or a false idea like the triple battles.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

I was just browsing over northern Honshu (with north to the south) in google earth when I noticed something: A lake above the northern peninsula and a mountain range on the left one. And on closer nspection, I found a huge port city in-between the middle and right.
