Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

I believe it has much more of a resemblance to NY, but my bet would be that they'll decide to fuse the NYC and Honshu regions and leave us hanging. Look, they have the Park, but with a lake around it. Honestly, it geographically has little resemblance to Honshu, if at all, but almost all the physical features match, leaving it like NYC had mountains and lakes and stuff dropped on it from Japan.

It's never been done before and they've been ripping out exact copies of regions for FOUR generations now, don't forget Orre and Fiore, too.

EDIT: Honshu is Johto and Kanto combined, I just noticed. Honshu is an island.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

Here are my opinions since the whole rush is over and the scans have been revealed.

Chiramii: Pretty cute and hopefully useful as well. Finally a chinchilla Pokemon and I can see it evolving into dual ice type. Technician powers up the weak moves making it very useful.

Mun'na: Pretty mysterious, but I like mysterious. Like many people said, this one has a lot of potential and no I don't think this one evolves into Drowsy. Telekines seems interesting, so looking forward to see its effect in-game. Probably evolves into pure psychic or psychic/grass due its flower pattern and pinkish color.

Gear: Pretty strange Pokemon, especially with abilities either 'Minus' or 'Plus'. There's more into it, so I can't say much more about it. Reminds me on Bronzor in a strange way.

Mamepato:
Typical regional bird. I like its design much more than Starly's. Also, Il ove its abilities so far. Seems like its stats won't be able to get reduced or maybe just defense.

Hihidurama:
Lol, another fire ape Pokemon. Seems pretty powerful and I doubt it'll evolve. I may be wrong though, but that also remains to be seen.

Shimama:
Definitely one of my favorites, looks pretty cool and has superb abilities. I'll definitely use it in-game. I only hope it evolves.

Meguroko:
Meh, I don't like it pretty much. Reminds me pretty much on Hippopotas and no to mention its black eyes. On the one hand its typing is pretty cool, but on the other hand it has 5 weaknesses towards Ice, Water, Grass, Fighting and Bug Type.

Prof. Araragi:
All I can say is "finally!". She looks pretty wise and cheerful, so I'm looking forward to her appearance in anime.

Pokedex: No touch screen? Seems cool anyway. Hey, a Pokedex is a Pokedex.

Isshu Region:
I have NO idea on what real world part is it based on, but I admit, it looks pretty cool and I like it. Especially since we get another desert which we didn't get since Hoenn.

Zorua/Zoroark:
Pretty much disappointed by the method. Oh come on, what makes this Pokemon so special? I won't bother finding it nor training it.

Reshiram/Zekrom:
So it seems like we're getting both ying/yang and nature vs. technology. Reshiram now has no weaknesses even though it lost the resistance towards water, but Zekrom is still weak towards Ice and probably Ground types.

Have you ever noticed how many changes are being made to these games, both minor AND major? Yeah, that's right, they CAN do it. The places are not to scale with the prefectures etc. but I agree they've made copies. Still, since this is a 'far away land', it could work. They made the Prof. female, stuck the game onto the DS EVEN when there's a new console coming out, adding a CAR(yeesh, these game freaks are freaks) and other minor stuff. What more do you need?

EDIT: Huh, I guess it is. I must had zoomed out too much on google earth. But I still think it looks a lot like NYC. Oh, anybody got the reference to Shrek in this post?

Isshu is based on New York? I don't see it, seriously. Sure, there are a few similarities but I can't see it being a replica of the whole area. In this case I think people are seeing what they want to see and are so convinced that they won't see it any other way.
Of course there's a possibility that the creators took inspiration from NY but that doesn't mean it's completely the same. It's very possible that they made a hybrid region that draws concepts from several countries and cities.

However, if it happens to be a North American region, then I'm not happy. I find it a boring choice, especially in the ways of architecture and history.
If they wanted to get out of Japan I would've rather wanted them to base a region on some European country (France, Greece etc.) or maybe India or China, since they all have very interesting and unique cultures that reflects in the architecture and the layouts of the cities. They could've also used the countries mythical creatures to inspire new legendaries and base Pokémon on the animals of the area.
With so many interesting possibilities in the world I can't believe they would base a Pokémon region on something as modern and dull as NY. I don't mean to offend anyone and I'm not saying NY itself is boring, but I am saying that for a game like this there were better choices.

First off, I was not too far zoomed out. You mistook another snow-capped mountain for Mt. Fugi.

Second, I still fail to see a resemblance.

It looks like Manhattan to me, but then again I really don't give a damn what it's based off of. Plus, just because it's based on something that's not of Japan doesn't mean that there will be no Japanese culture.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

But the fact that there are so many similarities between northern Honshu and Isshu is an interesting fact. It's got three peninsulas, a huge port city, a mountain range to the left, a lake to the north and perhaps more if you look deeper.

Edit: You know, since they'll probably reveal a clear map (no writing), let's stop debating for now and wait till after Pokemon Sunday.

Edit Two: By the way, what is so hard to accept about another Japanese region? We've had it for four gens now and yet you want to change that?

I agree about the features, but the islands look like NY islands. That's what I meant about the dumping of Honshu on Manhattan and stuff.

Agreed. Maybe they'll even tell us what it's based of! For all we know, there may be a worker here that's reading our posts and wondering if s/he should leak something out or not. XD.

EDIT: I'm not against another Japan region at all. Heck, I didn't know they were even based off Japan until last year.

Well, whatever. Now I'm confused as to where Honshu is. I got two results. One was youre port city, which is all there is in relation to Isshu, and one in the southern part, which looks a lot more like Isshu. I still think the islands' shape is a lot more like the American ones, though.

Honshu is an island containing Johto and Kanto...

Dude, let it go. I was really pulling for northern Touhoku too, but it just plain doesn't look like it. Those peninsulas have very distinctive shapes, and just the fact that there's three of them does not make this Touhoku. They even look to be divided by huge rivers, which Touhoku's very clearly aren't.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

I don't get why is it so hard to believe that Isshu may be based in Manhattan. I know NYC has a bad rep, but why is it so BAD for the new region to be based there or in the US?

Fun Fact: Orre bears resemblance of Phoenix, Arizona.

I'm liking the Hong Kong or New York City theories. D: Remember that it's farther away to take a boat AND airplane, not just an airplane.

Re: CoroCoro Discussion Thread (Current Issue: July 2010)

Here's my opinion on the "rumours" on pokebeach.

1. A green Cobra to accompany Reshi and Zek? What? Not only does green not fit in with the Yin/Yang, I fail to understand why it would be a Cobra? If there is a possible reason behind a green Cobra linking to Yin/Yang I'll stand corrected.

2. Minotaurus. Bipedal Tauros? Eh, not sure about that. But it might work.

3. Field changing items? No, just no. Weather works fine, but a Poison field? I don't get it.

4. Morality and Pokemon. Can't see it personally.
